Has anyone ever heard of the name "Seryl". Is it spelled with a Samech or a Sin?

My mom just found my grandparents Kesuba. They passed away many years ago, but she was cleaning through some stuff and found it.

For years, we thought my grandmother's name was "Sarah". This is what she went by, and we even named one of our daughters "Sarah"! Is Seryl a Yiddish form of Sarah? I hope so! I am kind of freaking out because we named our daughter after her!

My aunt's name is Serel and I know more than one other person by that name. AFAIK, it's spelled with a samech, but I can ask my aunt if you want.

There is a name Serel, and a lot of times they call themselves Seri. As with lots of names it could be that it originates from another name, like Sarah, and it got twisted through the years.

yes, I know someone whose second name is serel. And my in laws also made a mistake when naming a child, they found out years later that the namesakes name was different. But I dont see any reason to freak out, your childs name is bashert for her.

OP Here: That would be great if you could ask! Thank you!

Is Serel the Yiddish of Sarah? Does anyone know the English meaning?

One the Kesuba we found it it looks like it could be either a Samech or a Sin then Ayin-Resh-Yud-Lamed.
