So my tu beshvat article was published in Binah mag this week. They printed it without the last few sentences. And I told them when they sent me the final version that it ended midsentence on the page. sloppy.
and worse, I like my ending. It gives the emotional story to the piece.
They said they will print an erratum next week but who will care to go back and read it together next week?
I'm a bit unhappy about this. anyway, if anyone wants the last few sentences to "My Tree" on the last page of this week's binah, its coming next week. I'd post it here but I dont know if I'm allowed to do that (it being an original unpublished work and all).

I think it belongs to you after they print it. You can then do with it as you wish.
You can double check with them.
However, that is awful.
I never make any recipes from any magazines for this reason, I am always reading corrections weeks later.
If any were ever tried, they were disappointing.
I read them and enjoy reading them, and eat what I always eat.

That is so PAINFUL, when a magazine messes around with your work. I am sorry, and I feel for you. Maybe post the article in its entirely on this forum? Add that it was originally published in Bina.

Your article was wonderful! Not being able to read the last two lines was annoying. Thanks for posting them here.

My neighbor and good friend has a 3 page article in last weeks Bina, not only did they leave out inportant information they also changed a lot of information in the article to suit "Binah Readers" They changed a lot of facts. Don't get me started on Binah, I think we are going to ban it from our Makolet!

I wrote for another magazine and they constantly changed what I wrote without telling me. I wrote in rhyme, and it just did not rhyme when they corrected it. I was upset and embarrassed. I guess they all do this...

It is an editor's right to change anything for whatever reason they see fit, but the professional thing to do is ok the changes with the writer.

Whether or not the author sees changes before publication could depend on the editor's schedule, the layout schedule, the policy of that specific publication and how difficult they perceive the author to be - not necessarily in that order.

OP, I noticed the correction in this week's Binah.

OP here

Thanks to those who read and enjoyed my article!
I'm happy to hear bina did print the last two lines this week, I didnt have a chance to pick up the mag this week.

This was my first submission, I knew they would be editing my work but I was surprised how protective I was over my words when the editor did her editing.

As an editor for Binah, I'm intrigued by this thread.

amother-- your piece was beautiful and all of us were so annoyed when it got cut off...it's no fun for us either.

amother2 about Miriam Lottner-- I will email Beryl tomm about it. I work very closely with my writers and I've worked with Beryl on several pieces-- I'm surprised by this post only because she seemed to completely respect our readership's sensitivities. Yes, we cater to a varied crowd and we can't please 'em all but we try very hard.

Lastly, we have a policy-- nothing goes to print without the writer's approval.
