| I know it depends on whay you can afford but can you please tell me what or how much you would give to a friends son for his bar mitzvah? Not a close friend but a friend. location if it matters is miami

| We just gave $18 to a bar mitzva boy in Miami. I have no idea if it's standard, but we are struggling and can't afford more.

I think $18 is good; my son has gotten a few $18 checks. Aside from a sefer, there isn't much that you can buy for $18. Although I did buy all of my kids really pretty bechers with plates for 57 NIS, which is about $18, when I was in Israel a few months ago - silver plated, in Geulah. I haven't seen silver plated nice ones in local stores for that price.

| My ds was recently bar mitzvah, he got $18 from a friend of mine, he pooled it with the rest of the money he recieved. Any amount is nice. If you want to get him a gift item, how about a watch, sm. siddur to fit into his teffillin bag.

| what type of affair are you attending? did you go to a kiddush in shul or also a formal event?
