So Dh's birthday is 9 months away- but it's a biggie. So, Baruch Hashem I came up with the perfect idea. I would take his stacks and stacks of cds and load them onto an MP3 player and buy some kind of connector that can hook up into his car. He loves music and travels a lot and always has to shlep his cd book with him etc. etc.
Here are the problems:
1) I really don't know the first thing about MP3 players - what to buy, what features to get, how much memory I need.
2) my husband is very technologically challenged- if it isn't easy to use - he won't use it.
I don't want to spend a tremendous amount of money- I am not one that needs name brands or the latest and greatest top of the line.
However, I do want to buy quality. I don't want to buy junk. I want something that will be easy to maintain and easy to load the cds onto, and most importantly I want it to last.
So, what do y'all recommend?
TIA

I'm going to tag along watching this thread. I want to get DH a MP3 player for daf yomi (I started a thread in the gift giving section with no responses)
One thing to look for is bookmarking if he will be using it for shiurim, to remember the place in the middle.
And a touch screen or display screen to select the music/speech by name or subject or topic etc. That includes having a folders rather then one big storage area.
I had an IPOD for this but it broke after 2 years and it was so much money I want to get him something else this time.
I noticed Sony has one with a built in speaker so you don't even have to plug it into the car. But I'm not sure about the quality.
So I'm going to tag along to see recommendations if you don't mind.

I'd kind of like to get something like this for me - lol. I'd listen to shiurim from naaleh if I could be further away from my computer and thus getting housework done.
My boys that are over bar mitzvah have something - maybe sanyo? I don't even know. _________________ Rivka

Sky, what kind of ipod did you get?
I abuse and use my ipod a lot and it works very well. If the screen blanks out, it just needs to be reset,

I don't remember the exact type. It had just a dial that you turned to make selections, a display screen, maybe played movies (we didn't use it for that) , no wifi.
After we had it for a while it wouldn't work unless it was freezing (like stuck in the airconditioner vent or in my dh's cooler with an ice pack) or you squeezed a specific location. I googled the issue and it came up that this is a known-issue - could be a sodering problem or something.
We took it to the apple store but they said we owned it too long to do anything about it. DH got tired of keeping cold, and having the air on in the winter and I think it just got more and more moody so he gave up.
I also paid someone to load the daf yomi on there, I asked the apple store if they could transfer to a new IPOD and they said no, so I didn't feel a need to stick with them.
But I would like to get him something new.

| Wow, no one else wants to share their MP3 player experience? Or is everyone unhappy with what they have?

cant go wrong with an ipod, we both have 1, dh gets all his jewish music and shiurim on an 80gb one, I don't know if you can get it in that size any more though.
Connecting it to the car is trickier, you will probably have to get a professional to do it.
