I just put up a pot of water, add the fish when boiling and cook for 1 1/2 hrs. To that one can add: an onion, celery, carrots, etc - some like to put in sugar (I don't), some add extra pepper (I'm allergic to pepper so I don't ).
However, I may not be the cooking maven you were looking for. Hatzlacha! _________________ Rivka

easiest way ever to make gefilte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
take the roll IN THE WAX PAPER IT COMES IN (just take off the outer plastic layer). put the fish in the paper in an aluminum or other pan. place 1/2 an inch of water in the pan too. cover with foil. bake 2 hours at 350. THATS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stick in fridge. on shabbos, unwrap, slice, enjoy!
(the reason you have to spice it when you boil it is because then the flavors leech out into the water. in this case, when you bake it, the seasonings the compoany put in stay in! trust me everyone LOVES my gefilte)

I do the above, too, but I take the roll out of the paper. Prob. either way is fine - I just prefer not to have to take the paper off once it's cooked.
I'm writing to add that I like to pour off the water after it finishes baking. (You can wait until the water cools.) _________________ אין עוד מלבדו

I also bake my rolls. Put wrapped roll in aluminium container, one that just fits the fish. I put a drop of salt, a few grinds of pepper and a teaspoon or so of dill. Add about an inch of water, bake on 180 C / 350 F for 90 mins.
I also spill out the water, I hate wet fish!
