Always reminded me of Mary Poppins. My kids love them too!

Yup! With the occasional dash of Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. I just found a relatively new book at my neighbor's house, published sometime in the 2000s, waaay after the others, and read it all in one sitting!

They take a trip around the world, and while far from realistic (polar bears blowing bubbles?, a made-up Native American tribe), the whimsy and warmth totally make up for it. And it was cute to see the author reference Savta Simcha not being fond of email. Smile

ì would start with the first one. The first 2 are great, the others good, but its more fun to read them order so you know where everyone is coming from.

can you list me the order please?

This is the order:
1. Shabbos Bag
2. Cinnamon Tree (in reference to a previous poster, this is where Ezra and Tehilla are introduced)
3. Seven Splendid Gifts

now here's where I'm not too sure about...
4. Very Strange Stone in the Garden(?)
am I missing one more here?

the last one is 5. the Roundabout Journey to Jerusalem

Definitely read the first 3 in that order. All of them are great though.

So funny to see this old thread from two years ago resurrected!
I saw the thread title on the homepage and nostalgic childhood memories came flooding back, so I clicked on it to see what was the latest on Savta Simcha in 2011...and was shocked to see that I was the one who originally started the thread in 2009!

I just filled in the blanks in my Savta Simcha collection by going directly to Yaffa Ganz herself...she's my neighbor!

OOC can anyone solve for me where Ezra and Tehila come from? As a kid I must have missed the book where it explains who they were. I was always wondering if they were related or orphans?

While Savta simcha is in the US, uncle nechemia finds ezra slinging stones at birds in the garden early one morning. He has run away from an orphanage. he takes him in and teaches him not to be cruel to animals. (with permission from the orphanage) Tehila is his sister - I can't remember how she gets into the story. I think the later ones were published after I grew up so I don't know them as well.

(completely fictional...do you think israeli social services would really let a single man foster or adopt a ten year old boy?)

I found ds completely absorbed in the last savta simcha book this morning. He loves it. Now I need to find the first ones so he can read those...

Thanks for that. In one of the books it mentions how Tehilla came to visit for Tishrei or something.
