| My 12 year old DD has an obvious mustache. Should we wax or bleach?

| Waxing looks better. If it's bleached, you can notice light hairs from close, but wax also has some cons- in that you notice the growth in between waxes, it's more expensive, and painful than bleaching. If you don't want to wax, she can start off bleaching and later try waxing. She would have to wait until the bleached hair grew out, because you can't wax bleached hair as far as I know.

go for electrolysis or laser.
bleaching just makes the mustache blonde but still noticeable.
waxing is only a temporary solution and the longer she waxes the harder electrolysis/laser will eventually be.

Or you can use a depilatory cream. Not expensive, no appointments necessary, and no growth between treatments. I use mine 2-3 times a week for a few minutes on the upper lip. Test first in the inner elbow just in case she reacts badly to it. _________________ Visit HelpEllen.com whenever you shop at Amazon.com!

| If you do electrolysis just make sure to do it completely till the end bec I stopped when they were ALMOST finished (I left to sem) and she said don't TOUCH. don't wax, bleach, tweeze...or anything. so I didn't for a while but then there were a few dark noticeable hairs so I tweezed just those 2 or 3 and then slowly I had to tweeze more and more and now it is back to regular and I have to wax/tweeze all the time. (I had dark hair there from very early also but bleached first then after a year or so I started waxing. Only before seminary did I decide to do electrolysis...)

Huh? Not in my family for sure....I started needing to tweeze/wax at that age, as did my little sister, and now my daughter. 12 is very average. _________________ Chayalle

16?! That's really old to start...
I and most people I know who need to wax started at 12/13 years old. _________________

| this may sound a little wierd, but I have used a regular disposable shaver for this. just use plenty of soap lather as cream. its quick and easy. don't use the same one you use for legs, though, it could probably have unwanted germs and bacteria, etc. when she's older, I would definitely recommend laser.

Shaving is NOT a great idea unless you want to do it regularly.
By shaving, you "cut" the hair so the thick (lower) part stays and when it grows back, it will be the first thing you'll see. It will be obvious and not nice looking. I'd say wax regularly, do laser or get some hair removal cream that is safe to use on the face.

| please do electrolysis or laser, waxing and creams make the hair grow in faster and thicker. you can buy her a numbing cream to apply beforehand so the electrolysis is not as painful. and we all started this stuff when we were about 12, its a very average age.

| I strongly suggest doing electrolysis. I was that girl with dark hair on my upper lip and I always felt so self-conscious about it. Bleaching is very temporary and you can still see the hairs. I did laser and it didn't work (it worked on other parts of my body, but not the face). Then I tried electrolysis. I went consistently once every 2 weeks, for about 1.5 years, and now I only have to go once in about 6-9 months for a touch up. I regret not doing electrolysis when I was a teenager, as it is the most permanent solution.

Interesting how so many of you are pro-electrolysis. I have only met one person IRL who actually did it.
Veet wax stips face
I have used veets body stips and was happy. It's just annoying to remove leftover wax.
New Facial hair Epicare hair Remover remove Epistick Stick
This works, but is painful.

She is at the age of maturing still so I wonder if electoysis or lasor will work for her because the hormones do mess it up. You can do waxings or bleaching. If you want, try bleeching once and see how that is. If not consider waxing (it's like five bucks) until she finished reaching adulthood. _________________ Sunday social program forming in Brooklyn for children with social delays. Pm me for more info

I do laser now for these things. My laser lady said. electrolysis is best for young girls. But laser wouldn't work. They kill the hair off differently and hormones would interfere with laser while electrolysis wouldn't.
It's painful but there is a topical anaesthetic she can use. This is without a doubt the NICEST thing you can do for her. Do it now. Before she gets into shidduchim. I can't describe the embarasment when your husband sees something that the wax, tweez, etc. missed!!!!!

I think that she should get the area waxed- but not in some random nail salon- there are some very talented frum estheticians who do waxings in their homes or in their makeup salons- and that is the best bet for a 12 year old.
there is a huge difference in pain between a waxing done by an untrained woman who just applies wax and rips it off- and a trained woman who applies wax at a specific angle and then counter-pressures the area after pulling off the wax.
bring your daughter to a professional waxer!
