He might also like The Great Brain series - which also might be slightly below his level, but any pre-adolescent boy would get a good laugh out of those! Or maybe "A Series of Unfortunate Events"? I can't imagine any secular kid today hasn't read/watched Harry Potter, so I'm not sure that would be appreciated. | I like the idea of The Great Brain series. I did some research and looks good. any specific title you recommend?
