I think Imamother is a wonderful website , providing a great opportunity for orthodox women of all stars and stripes to network with one another on just about any subject.
I spend a lot of time on Imamother. That is because I'm feeling somewhat under the weather emotionally and do not wish to go outside and be with real people. Imamother has become my lifeline.
This has set me to thinking. Who are you, my fellow Imamothers. I gather that some of you also spend much time here. Is there a way to identify one another and heal together.
I wonder about another thing. So many people read a thread - @ 900 _ and then 12 people respond. What's that?
Also there is so much repetition . Several posts with the same content.
And then there are those posters , so intelligent , warm , responsive , right on the money , who reach the inner you. The very best of Imamother
Imamother is my at home friend.

Hi!
Sometimes it's simpler and easier for me, too, to fill my social needs on this site than IRL! I don't need to be available on anyone's schedule but my own to participate in imamother, unlike RL! My house can be noisy. My throat can hurt. But I can still have a social life online.... thanks, Yael!
So sorry you've been feeling down.
I think many imamothers here are my friends. Okay, I would not know who they were if they bumped right into me in the grocery... but one doesn't need to see a physical face to have an emotional friendship.
Not that I'd lend any imamothers all my money or let them watch my kids for a weekend! There's a difference between naively trusting and emotionally feeling a relationship! _________________ Visit HelpEllen.com whenever you shop at Amazon.com!

TranquilityAndPeace,
Thank you. You are a dear.
Do you think Imamother friends would necessarily be good friends in real life?
I am a former preschool teacher. I love children and they respond in kind.

Hmm. I really don't know.
We can do a test and report back how it goes! Have any cities made imamother meetups?
How REAL must RL be?
Do email-only friends count? Do phone-only friends count? Or must there be some face-to-face contact?

I just go where the flow takes me.
Ideas more than a particular person will influence my decision to post, as will time (I have been home and not at work because of my back) as well as if I really think I have something of value to say.
Or have something I think of as witty. Unfortunately my wit is not normally enjoyed by others...I often think I think on a different wavelength than many others. _________________ But then again, I'm a dragon.

Imamother lets me play at being "Dear Abby" , Heloise and Dr. Joyce Brothers all rolled into one, with a little Dr. Ruth and Dr. Hilda thrown in. How many people IRL are going to spill their kishkes and ask my advice on SB or intimacy? Not too many are even asking my advice on laundry!
One question: OP, you posted "So many people read a thread - @ 900 _ and then 12 people respond." Huh? What does that mean?

You're totally lying, Zaq.
I have a very accurate picture of you in my mind: You are a perfectly coiffed regal woman in her 40's, sitting on an elegant armchair in a tasteful drawing room in your refined house perched at the top of a majestic mountain.
You receive people for SB and intimacy issues in the mornings, and reserve the afternoons for household and interpersonal advice. People travel many miles to trek up said mountain and pour out their hearts to you.
You then give your visitors brilliant and witty solutions to their vexing problems and send them off with one of your signature handmade recycled hat boxes filled with delicious and healthy treats to nourish their bodies and nurture their souls.

Zaq,
The forum page tells how many people view a page and also the # of responses. For example, In the intellectual forum 1013 viewed a thread while only 21 posted a reply

TAP,
I envision Zaq as a middle/upper class punny woman of undetermined age with time on her hands and a good soul. Inquisitive, imaginative , caring , a good cook, very good hostess, and well read. I hope her family appreciates her.

SB = Shalom Bayis.
Shall we start a new thread about how we imagine our imamother friends?
Manyhats, I imagine that you are a beautiful dreamy poet in your upper 20's, a deep thinker, and a sensitive soul who connects with nature and art in a deep way.

Hi many hats.
Interesting topic...
I envision you to be woman in her 40;s or 50s. You own many hats and sometimes become confused by the large assortment you have accumulated over the years. However you have some hats that you love dearly and wear them almost all the time.
You are a thinking and nurturing type of woman...I m envisioning you to be on the shorter side probably under 5 and a half feet. You like to talk about things that matter and things that are close to your heart. And you love a good joke!
How close am I? _________________ "Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of somebody else" Judy Garland

I had those questions until I figured them out: not so many people respond because perhaps they read out of curiosity or a way to unwind but don't necessarily feel that they have anything substantial to say.
I personally feel that there is repetition because when someone's going through something specific, part of posting on imamother is other people hearing YOU. Meaning, right now it doesn't really matter to me what people told another poster to do, because part of my agenda is for people to listen to what I have to say.
This is how we make imamother an at home friend
