I like the Kindle app from Amazon.
Evernote's great, too.
Barcode scanner: you can scan the barcode off something with your camera and get information on the web on it. It's really good for product reviews and pricing.

I had the kindle app but also some other bookreader apps. I think one called moonreader.
weight tracker/calorie counter app if you are trying to lose weight. There are loads of these,

evernote - you can write a note on your pc and access it on your phone. Or vice versa. Its great for shopping lists and to do lists. You can also include pictures.
not sure if it is available on android but the sleepcycle alarm clock is amazing. I have it on my iphone. it wakes you up when you are not so sleepy.
