So what do you do? where do you get yours? do you buy or make? I need ideas to make with my kids...
I usually make these things with contact paper and let the kids sprinkle glitter and cut up pieces colored thin paper (I forget what it's called... it's what they put in shopping bags when you give someone a present). Then you fold it in half and hang it from your sukkah. When the sun shines through it it makes pretty colored patterns and at night the lights reflect on the glitter.
It's cute an easy to make, but I want some more ideas...
So, any good ones?

| I have fake flowers and plastic fruits/veggies that we hang all over the sukkah. I found them at the 99 Cent Store and Dollar Tree stores.

| We pretty much just have 2 posters w/ushpizin and brachos, some pretty strings of hanging lanterns, and some "batiks" we made. I traced sukkos pictures onto muslin, traced the pencil with Elmer's blue washable glue, used fabric dye on the whole thing, then washed it to take off the glue. It looks great, and it's a quick way to do a big art piece for the sukkah that does okay in the rain. This year we have a new (in progress!) sukkah that's 14x24. I'm sure it will look a bit bare this year!!!! We'll work on it for future years, BE"H.

| my cousin just gave me this new idea- I didn't try it yet, but sounds great. we have lots of rimonim trees in the area, so I'll walk around with my kids and find the small ones(non edible) on the floor, or whatever, and collect them. then we'll string them together and hang them up. should be pretty.

When you string up the rimonim, make sure it will not be over anyone's seat. Speaking from experience - they drip, and the stains don't come out!
You can collect them, let them dry, spray paint with gold paint, and use them for next year.
Likewise, pinecones, spray painted or not, - you can string them together and hang.
If you have access to bouganvilla - remove the leaves and just let the flowers dry - the look beautiful, delicate and wispy. Stick the tall branches in a vase.

How old are your kids? Give them some age-appropriate materials, and let them make whatever they dream up. Stay as far away from the children as possible (as far as safety will permit) while they are creating. Those are the best decorations!
Just about any kind of craft project can be hung up in the sukkah. Construction paper is likely to be damaged when wet, so poster paper may be a better choice. Washable markers and paints might wash right off if there's rain, but I wouldn't give tiny children permanent markers/paints to use without close supervision. Craft foam, glitter glue, stickers and yarn will hold up well. Flat creations such as drawings and paintings can be covered with clear contact paper for extra protection if you expect rain.
We have both "bought" and "made" decorations in our sukkah. The homemade decorations are tattered and worn after being hung up year after year, but we leave it up to the "maker" to decide when to toss them.

So, I need deco ideas for our new sukkah! We have wood panels in natural wood color & one wall is our brick wall, which we'd like to keep exposed. I'm just trying to get some creative ideas on a theme and/or deco that would fit well.
Thanks!

For something a little sophisticated, suitable for an adult, or, say, ages 10 and up:
google in "3D snowflakes", but don't make them white, use 12" squares of scrapbooking card stock, in primary or harvest colors. And don't tape them, staple them. If you use cardstock and staples, it should withstand wet weather.. The end result is striking, and huge - 32".
Or give your little ones a piece of sturdy paper that is twice as long as it is wide -ex. 9x18, Have them attack it with crayons or oil pastels. when they've done their thing, help them fold it up, accordion style, narrow pleats. Or you do it. Then you tie a string tightly exactly in the middle. Open up both ends, like two fans, and staple them together. string up different sizes in a vertical line.
Or, google in "paper snake chain", and set kids (ages Kindergarten and up) to work. If they are motivated, they might work on these for hours.
Good luck! and good Yom Tov!

Correction: "paper snake chain" won't get you what I am thinking of, I couldn't find it, so I'll explaian it myself:
Take two long strips of paper, staple them perpendicular to each other (make an L) Then alternate one strip going up or down over the other, with the other strip going from right to left or left to right.. Get it? Staple the end when you get to it, and begin again with two more strips. Some kids love the repetition and go on and on with this.
