Argh, I couldn't figure out which forum to put this in...
We're moving and will need to totally redo the space, ASAP. Is there a computer program (free or cheap please!) that would help us figure out how to arrange things? Some furniture we have already, we will need to do some buying though we are undecided exactly what to get. The walls are almost all definitely staying where they are. I fiddled around on paper a bit already but now I need to take it to a more professional level to figure out exactly how things should work.
I do have Google Sketch-up but it turned out to be way too complicated for my needs. I need something more geared towards non-professionals who need to plan their furniture arrangement before doing it.
Alternatively, if there is an interior designer on here who wants to do a big mitzvah...

You can draw up the walls on graph paper - each box is a foot (or 6") so that it is to scale.
Then draw your furniture on a separate piece - cut them out and move them around on the paper you drew the walls

| IKEA has a planning tool where you can put in the room dimensions, where the windows/doors/outlets/etc. are located, and then select furniture (from their stock) and arrange it around the room so you can get an idea of what the final product would look like. It's not ideal because the selections come from their inventory only, but if you choose items with similar dimensions it should be helpful. I've used it before and found it extremely useful for basic planning.

Thanks!
I only saw a kitchen planner on Ikea's website, is that what you're referring to? I couldn't get it to work either. Maybe I'll try from a different computer with IE.
Thanks for the link, gp2.0, will check it out.
Any opinions on making an alcove exactly the right size for a baby's crib? Is that claustrophobic for the baby? It wouldn't be like putting baby to sleep in a closet, one side would be totally open into the living room.
