I cover my hair mostly with hats. I occasionally use a sheytel (headband fall or full sheytel) but my go-to covering is hats.

I have been wearing scarves more frequently recently and like the look, but have 2 issues that I'd like some suggestions for dealing with:

1. I have short wisps near my ears that slip out of the tichel (too short to tuck in) and frizz up immediately (I have curly hair). Any suggestions for dealing with this?

2. I hate that the tichel slips back. I use all-cotton scarves (not slipperly silk) but still wind up pulling it forward as it slips back later in the day, or often retying it. Any recommendations for how to prevent the slippage?

Thanks!

you can pin back the short wisps if they bother you. otherwise, they really shouldn't be a problem re: covering. check with your rav.

I have very fine hair, and it's not very voluminous. however, the weight of a small bun at the back of my head pulls at the tichel, and the hair at the top of my head does nothing to keep it there. I find the best thing to use is a hairagami. it's like two velour slap bracelets that are connected. I make a bun with that, and that stays firmly against my head, so it doesn't weigh the tichel down. tichels always slide a little, but with this it doesn't slide enough to show my hair. and the back always looks neater, too.

I got this when I was single and never used it. you need way more hair than I have to cover the velour, so it looked stupid. it's quite handy now, though Smile

I fold over about an inch of tichel in front and that seems to give it some extra support up there, but if it does slip back a little I unfold a bit of it.

Someone mentioned a bun, and I think that could be part of the problem.

I know the bun has been the "in" style for quite a while now, but (in my experience) tichels stay put much better when the ends are brought forward over the head and tied on top and tucked in (square/triangle scarf) or over the shoulder (oblong), rather than tied in the back around a bun.

wrapped around the head does stay better, for the most part, but some people just look silly like that. and I find over the shoulder pulls more than the bun. the knot in the back pulls its weight, so wrapping it balances the scarf well, but with fine hair there's no friction to counteract the knot weight/bun weight. I'd love to see someone do a topknot thing (think the kids of the king of siam...). it would look silly as anything, but I bet it would hold Smile

I've heard of people wearing a bathing cap underneath (the breathable type) for anchoring purposes. people also sew sheitel combs/clips in. those are cheap enough, and if it doesn't pull your hair out, it should work well.

I am STILL wearing my tichel NOW and it is 9.25pm. I have not had to readjust or retighten it the whole day. it has not slipped back at all.

Is the wig grip worn over the ears? I can't stand having anything tight or heavy on my ears...

I do something similar, but I also wear a skinny headband (that's not too tight) and I tuck the extra inch under it, that way there is no slipping at all.

I sewed those "comb" things that are normally sewn in the front of a sheitel and snap onto your head on my pretieds and they finally stay put.

I just wanted to get a response to my question - do you wear the wig grip over the ears? or can it be pushed behind the ears without making them stick out?

I have made my own "wig grip" from a old pair of children's tights under the turban that I wear. It is worn on top of my ears, but doesn't push them down to stick out. I imagine the same would be true if it is a soft, light material. Try it on in the store.

No, it is worn like a regular headband behind the ears

This is what I do. I never use a bun. I prefer the tied-up-in-front look or the hang-over-one-shoulder-in-front look.

And the whisps are not a problem halachically for me (as I wrote, I have no problem showing a bit, tefach-wise. I just don't like the look.

Thanks for all the tips. Is the velour thing hot in the summer? I think the milano band looks like it's the lightest and easiest to use.

All of the wig grips are exactly the same. just with different labels Wink
I do not find it so hot bec it is very small. But they also make a version that is half velour and half cotton.
