If you mean you want real news reports, you probably want to go with Hamodia (the once-a-week edition) which is primarily a newspaper with a magazine accompaniment. But if you already know what's going on in the world from internet etc, and what you mean by news is editorials and commentary on the news, Mishpacha should suit you. It's very well rounded. Binah is great for household/parenting/inspirational but very not newsy. Mishpacha has a household/parenting section (Family First) as well as inspirational sprinkled throughout, but the main magazine has more dedicated to current events.

If I were to get one, I'd get binah. sounds like it meets a lot of your criteria.

Better idea: before you subscribe, can you get a few different ones to see what you like? If someone you know subscribes they can probably pass off old ones. I just handed down a zillion to various people, one who found me through imamother.

Being a subscriber to all 3 - binah, mishpacha, ami and (the Zman) here is what I recommend

Binah - has lost it's groove - stories are long and repetitive - sometimes unrealistic in it's plots and reactions of it's characters.
Home/food section: -At one point they were gaining momentum with great home sections and cooking 101 type recipes- but have not seen anything lately - but the same stuff you see in all 3 magazines - alot of efrat libfruend stuff if you like that type of patchke cooking
Really not a fan of their house tips person - so long winded and unpractical most of the time
News/current events - really nothing except the occasional commentary type thing (I agree with another poster - hamodia mag - much better and informative)

Mishpacha - Has a great main magazine - my DH loves to read it as well - some really great writers - focuses on current events and interesting people profiles

Family first mag- which is more the "womans mag" - same silly stories like Binah most of the time - except - you will get the occasional serial that is very well written and worth keeping up with.
Home/Food section - same tired stuff as everyone else - if you are looking for basic recipes not a bad section - really depends who is the weekly food writer (changes constantly)
Home stuff - really non existent - does have some good food knowledge stuff though at times - (but not worth the subscription alone)

Ami - still finding its groove - it's still a baby publication with I think only 1 year under it's belt
It's new stories can be a little sensationalist - but non-the less interesting to read- and current with the times
It's stories - same as the rest - have yet to really find a serial I can get into

It's food section - was very good in the beginning - but has lost some of it's steam - than they added the Joy of kosher - which I am not a fan of - it's I guess a work in progress - that has potential -
Home section- really not much there

ZMAN - a great magazine - like a readers digest for adults and kids - we are big fans

I will probably be renewing Just the Mishpacha subscription this year - and depending on what AMI has on the front cover - will purchase at the store accordingly
Will not be renewing Binah at all

hamodia news coverage is EXCELLENT! they do a great job on israeli news and I like the business/health section also. they don't have much in household tips/parenting etc though their magazine has seen much improvement in the past year. We personally subscribe to Mishpacha and Hamodia. We keep talking about dropping one since mishpacha is very pricey but some of their articles in the main section are just too good to miss (I.e. The adventures of Ari and Ari).

I have Binah and enjoy it very much, but the truth is that everyone likes something else. Your best bet is to try them before.

It's = it is
the possessive form is always, without exception, written "its".

Thank you for humoring one of my pet peeves.
