SEIT in a mainstream preschool or Otsar?

I can't decide if I should put my son, who will be 3 in July, into a regular preschool with SEIT or into a center based program like Otsar. He is very delayed in speech and has some behavior issues. I'm worried the if he does go to Otsar for a year then no school will take him for kindergarten. Anyone have any experience with this?

Hmmm. If you start him in a regular school, they school might gently tell you to take him out if he doesnt fit in. and I really havent heard of sucha thing asa school rejecting a child bcz they were in special ed a year before.

Think about if your kid would be able to handle a regular school. then think how much he could gain in otsar. which is more worth it?

Otsar is full for Sept. There are other good similar schools. It depends how much your kid needs it.

how about yeled vyalda? They have many children who are receiving a lot of therapy, but its less of a stigma than an actual special ed school. This may be a good compromise btwn special ed and a reg school. ( I dont know if its possible to get in anymore, though). But if you feel your child really needs special ed, do whats best for him now and take the future as it comes. Hatzlocha in your decision.

I worked in the 4-5 year old classroom at Otsar several years ago- self contained, not integrated. By the end of the year, all the kids who could successfully integrate into mainstream schools the following year were accepted into the schools their older siblings were in. Chashy Brand advocated for them and they made it happen.

As a mother who sent two children to Otsar for two years each, I can tell you it was one of the best things I did for them. My oldest has Aspergers. He went to a special ed class the first year and an integrated class the second year. Then he went into Pre-1A in a regular school. He is currently in high school. my youngest son went years later to the integrated class for two years. He had language delays, Auditory sensitivities, and sensory issues (he was not toilet trained until age four. When it came time to mainstream him the yeshiva at first wanted to put him in kindergarten because he was immature but Chashy spoke to them and told them he was too bright and should go to Pre-1a (he was reading English fluently at that point. He is currently one of the top in his class. I feel the two years in Otsar helped both my children address their issues and prepare them to be mainstreamed.
