I have shown my hakaros hatov to my children's teachers many times over the year, in person. with a nice card, and plus I gave cash chanuka and Purim plus I chipped in with the class on Chanuka. My question is I want to buy an end of the year present for the teacher but my dh thinks that I shouldn't spend too much because it is just overkill, it's the not the amount of money I spend, he thinks I shouldn't give anything but I feel a good teacher is a good teacher.

Does anyone have any good ideas what I can get a teacher that shows that I really appreciated her yet at the same time is not too gaugy that I am overdoing it with presents?

Thanks.

It doesn't matter so much what you give, but a nice, thoughtful thank you letter with the gift is very important.

When I could afford it I used to give gift cards to the local teaching supply store 'Scholars choice'
his teacher loved it as the cute classroom extras and teaching aids come usually out of their pockets.

She still thanks me 3 years later on facebook Embarassed Very Happy

a nice card is the best thing! You can also get something small from a candy store- like one of those "number 1 teacher chocolates"...

I didn't want to spend money I don't have right now, but I felt that a card wasn't sufficient. I bought at Target the scented reed bottle thing (not sure what it's called). It's from the scented candle aisle. I thought it was nice and I only paid $10.39 apiece. Now if you have more than a few teachers...

Too late for this year, but I always sent my girls' teachers flowers for Shavuos with a nice letter thanking them for all the care and concern they showed my daughters throughout the year. It was not an expensive bouquet, but they were always so touched by it-I would get thanks from them even years later, when I would meet them.

I really LOVE that idea. I think I would do that for a teacher that really went above & beyond for my child. Unfortunately, with multiple children in school who have multiple teachers, that would get really expensive. I have 4 kids in school and there are 10 teachers between all of them!!

My 4 kids have a total of 14 teachers and I try to give them something small for every yom tov. Rh- honey cake, chanuka-gelt, purim- mm, shavous- cheese cake, end of year - to be decided soon. Always with a short note and always under £5.
I dont think there is ever too much when it comes to saying thank you to your child's teacher. My theory is, the more bribery, the more the teachers will notice my child.

I have (and others I work with do, too) a special box, where I keep thank you notes. My favorites are the ones with pictures of the smiling child attached. When I'm having a bad day I take it out and re-read them, to remind myself that I'm appreciated. I love the money, gift cards, lotion, mugs, etc, but it's the cards that mean the most.
