Hello. I was hoping to gain some insights into what we should expect or plan for during the process. We've begun the nefesh b nefesh application, but not much beyond. We have B"H 7 children (15-2) and are iy"h expecting in Aug. We aren't really sure about housing, schools, communities, etc. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

good luck with your aliyah process and b'sha'ah tova for your upcoming birth

nefesh b'nefesh should be able to give you all the information you need - they know which communitiies are best depending on your requirements - education, religious status, etc

obviously you need to take your children into consideration so you need to be somewhere where you will get the education that they all need - getting your children settled is, in my opinion, the number one priority

your husband should already be networking within his profession and with anyone and everyone he knows or who is a friend of a friend or a contact of a contact - don't wait until you get here to be in touch with people get the ball rolling now so that he can interview or meet with people as soon as you get here

good luck

I'm sure we can give more concrete suggestioons about specific communities if you can sketch out for us what you are looking for (religiously, budget-wise, etc.)

Hi, thanks for responding. I just registered for several webinars with NBN so at least that is a start. My husband has begun making contact primarily with people who travel for business, which is not exactly what our goal is but they are in the same line-IT.

We would like to continue to send our children to Chabad schools and daven in a Chabad shul but haven't uite figured out to design a budget for pre or post aliyah.

I work 20-35 hours a week now as a Social Worker, but I'm not sure how feasible employment in this field will be with limited hebrew language skills. We started using the Rosetta Stone program to get somewhat of a headstart. But, there is so much to consider, and I don't want to get overwhelmed before we even get started.

Maybe start by making a list of possible chabad communities with schools that would be near suitable employment opportunities for you and dh.

Once you have that you can look into the housing options/costs in each area, the actual schools, ect. And consider what is doable.

Will you come on a pilot trip?

I'm very happy to help you! Wink

lots of hatzlacha. I would gear a lot of what your doing for your oldest children. not to be disgusting as its such mesuris nefesh to come live here, and iyH everything will run smoothly, but sometimes teens/preetens have a a VERY hard time adjusting (I.e. where I live in ramat beit shemesh, the statisitcs are pretty ugly, I wouldnt come here!) . maybe you can start doing some street hebrew at home now.....best of luck

Just curious as to what you mean by the statistics are "pretty ugly" in an area like RBS, were it is primarily anglo...what does that mean for people, like myself who are moving with teens to a more israeli yishuv???

I thought you werent sure where you are moving to.
I think theres so many anglos here so they stick to eachother and cant break in to israeli society....that goes for their parents as well which further isolates the children.
they say 40% of anglos who come to RBS with a teenager have a kid of going off the derech. idont know if this is accurate or not, but even if its 30% its pretty bad.
I think the biggest factor is that the kids should feel part of their new schools enviroment
there are many organizations who deal with these kids, maybe its kidai to contact them and ask them how to best prepare kids so ther shouldnt be problems chas vishalom
in beit shemesh theres hakshiva
theres kav lanoar in yerushalayim
and tvunot run by r' orlowek
hatzlacha!

peanutgallery, I think she means problems with teens going off the derech. I've heard a lot about it here and there too. I think it's a bigger problem there where there's so many Anglos, the kids don't even get a chance to integrate into Israeli society. They really are living in a bubble over there.

From what I remember reading about your previous posts I think your kids will be just fine. I came with kids older than yours to an Israeli/all Hebrew speaking environment and my teens did just beautifully. I'm here less than two years. Last night we had a principal and teacher of the girls local hs school here trying to recruit my DD. They could not believe she is here less than 2 years. They said she is a sabra, she is nothing like an olah. I'm just saying it can go both ways. And I think moving to the yishuv will be good for your kids.
