I'm thinking I should give end-of-the year gifts to some women who worked one on one with my kids, such as school speech therapist, school social worker etc. What is a good price range to give? And any suggestions? I'm worried about giving gift certificates as I don't know if any amount will be the "right" amount.

I'm getting nervous about this because I have someone who worked one-on-one with my daughter in a govt subsidized homework program (I didn't have to pay). For Purim my daughter gave her a cute shalach manos along with an envelope with $20 in it and I wrote a small thank you letter. I didn't hear from her acknowledgement, and in addition (could be a coincidence) the relationship went down hill somewhat after that. Did I give too little? I just don't feel so confident about what to give any more.

Thanks to anyone who has ideas!

I am a speech therapist who work with children in the school setting in NYC (mostly non-Jewish) and I RARELY get any gifts or even acknowledgement of the great progress their children made with me. Things I have gotten over the years (I would say that I get gifts from approximately 2% of my students): a mug, a pen set, a box of fancy chocolates, soaps from Bath and Body, and $10 to Dunkin Donuts. That is honestly all I can think of. I didn't think the $10 was too cheap, in fact I was impressed that they gave something at all.

Also, I want to mention - I have felt this personally, but mostly have heard it from others, - a warm-felt note of appreciation is worth gold, even more than any gift.

Thank you for your reply. It's good to know that it's the thought that's appreciated, so I will pick something that works out for me.
