After having a baby about 4 months ago and being a mother for the first time on Mother's Day I was curious if my husband of a year & a half (who I will preface by saying is very sweet, but not Mr. Token-Gift Romantic--but I can hope that he'll surprise me one day right?) would commemorate the day with at least a card or something. Anyway first thing in the morning when the baby woke up for the 4th time that night--not one of the better nights I say to my baby: "Is that anyway to treat Mommy on Mother's Day?" and my husband says "Oh right, it's Mother's Day, but we dont really celebrate that". I was a little disappointed. I know the classic line is "everyday is mother's day", but I do think that it's nice that there is one day to something extra special for your Mother. I usually do something for my mother. To be fair My husband did tell me sweetly "Happy Mother's Day," but I wouldn't have minded a card. How do you feel about Mother's Day?

I detest the expression "every day is Mother's day", which is nonsense. We honor our mothers every day, sure, but we celebrate them on Mother's day, and, Hallmark holiday or not, it's a very nice thing. Obviously we don't set aside one day to respect our mothers and diss them the rest of the year, but one day to fete them and go the extra mile to express appreciation is a lovely thing. Ditto for father's day.
