I am looking for information on whether of not this is feasible for a mother. Do you or anyone you know commute from lakewood to manhattan? how does it work out? do they drive, take a bus? is there a train? how much does it cost? is it possible to find a babysitter for all of those hours in lakewood? how much does the commute cost?

thanks!

I have... it's not fun.
You can either take the academy bus (academybus.com) to downtown manhattan or NJ Transit (njtransit.com) to midtown. It's somthing like $15 for a one way trip, books of 10 tickets for $110, and there are monthly passes as well. Figure at least 2 hrs commute each way (there are local / express buses depending on the time.)
There's also a frum bus everyday I think but I don't know details.

Babysitting is hard... I've found it challenging to get a babysitter for anything different then the typical hours (9-9:30 - 2-2:30), they rely that husbands babysit until 4, but extended hours do exist. You can PM me for my babysitter's name, though I don't know quite how long she would go.
Are you working fulltime in Manhattan (so you would be out of the house minimum 7-7?) Can your husband drop off in the morning at 9:30 or so? I don't know what you can do in the afternoons - maybe try and find a HS girl? There's also Ready Set Grow, which I think goes from 8:30 -6:30. It's more expensive then a typical babysitter, but supposed to be excellent, and you won't have problems with all the days off from school, bein hazmanim etc that the typical babysitter doesn't work.
