I asked someone to remove an ad from her sig and she asked me where the rules are written and you know what? I don't know! Please point me to the thread with the rules.
TIA

From http://imamother.com/forum/guidelines.php

Rules and Guidelines for Imamother.com

5. Spam and Advertising: Please do not post links to for-profit websites. Posting about your website or business is considered taking a free ad, and is not tolerated. Posting about a friend's business is also not acceptable. Do not email or private message any members with this information either. This is considered spam. If you'd like to advertise please email us for rates.

Never post an email address or a website. Contact between members could go through private messages. We often have robots crawling the public sections of Imamother looking for email addresses and you don't want to get spam. (Exception: in the private sections you may post an anonymous email address if that is the only way for someone to contact you anonymously. The private sections are the sections that you must login to in order to read the posts.)

HOWEVER:
If you find that a thread or post violates the above guidelines, please report it to the moderator of that section. We reserve the right at any time to change or add any rules to this list. Each member will be judged on a case-by-case basis if a banning will occur. There is a possibility that a person may be banned even though the rule she broke is not listed here.

(So maybe the complaint should have gone to a mod instead of you PMing? Not accusing, just asking?)

Perhaps people with ads in their signatures have paid Yael for the advertising? I don't know about this particular case.

Ads in signatures are not ok.
If you have an ad in your signature for a business type website, its not ok.
even if you only hope one day to make money and its just starting off, and even if the profit is only a few dollars so far, its still considered a for profit website.

In every person's profile there is a place to post your website. and you may do so there.
If your signature includes a link to your personal blog, that you simply wish to share for fun, and you dont have ads on it, then I wont say anything about it. Silent
Noone with an ad in their signature has my permission to have it there, so if you see an ad in a sig, you can polity let the poster know she is in violation of the rules.

anyone who write in their signature, pm me to find out how to make more money, or to buy stuff, with no actual link, is also not acceptable.

FYI, non-member guests and google spiders/search engines cannot see signatures, so if you were hoping to increase the page rank of your site by having it posted many times here in your signature it wont work. sorry.

So someone who has a blog with ads on it and makes money off it should not post it in their signature here unless they pay, am I correct?

On another board I used to frequent, they had a way to indicate members who pay, either the text of the username is a different color, or maybe it's a special avatar, I can't remember. In any case, maybe something like that could be implemented so mods could tell at a glance if someone has paid for a signature or not.

Wait, so you'd want me to remove my blog from my signature? I really hope I can still keep it there...

Yael, have you considered selling signature ads? If it didn't cost too much, I'd buy one. You could limit the number of words to keep them from becoming too obtrusive. I have or am a partner in more than one micro-business. Your banner and permanent ads are priced for businesses far larger than mine.

I don't advertise the Balabusta's Daily Organizer (a Jewish day planner) here because I don't have a website for it at this time. We might try an announcement ad next year for it, but a signature ad would work just as well -- and if I posted more frequently, it would be even better!

My other very small businesses (kitchen and space planning, and graphic design) are too Baltimore-specific to make an announcement ad on Imamother.com cost-effective, but I would try a signature ad for them if it were reasonably priced.

We once offered paid ads in signatures, but it got complicated since posters with 10,000 posts were paying the same as those with 15 posts. and making a 2 tier paying system, would discourage posters from posting more and reaching the next level.
I would consider offering paid signatures, what price do you think is fair?
you can pm me.

Personally, I don't see a problem with posters paying the same amount, no matter how many posts they have.
1. Their sig is only seen once a page, not every single time they post.
2. It's a "reward" so to speak -- the more they contribute, the more the ad is worth to them. I think it's a win-win. Imamother benefits as well as the posters.

Yes, I also think it's a great idea. I think the charge should be nominal, because it basically means that anyone who benefits from it is a regular poster and part of the imamother "family". Those who don't post wouldn't find it beneficial and would have to take out an ad at higher cost anyway for it to be effective.

I think it would also have an added benefit: it would encourage experts to post on threads within their field of expertise, because they would have the exact target audience they need reading their signature. eg a lactation consultant would get more advertising for her money to her target audience the more she posted advice in the nursing section, or a financial consultant or accountant in finances etc.

Yes, that would be a real benefit.

Yael, regarding pricing, I will speak to DH and pm you when I can make a bit of time (between kids, teaching, my various very small businesses, rehearsals for the Simchas Esther musical (Baltimore hachnasas kallah tzedakah; I'm the pianist) and planning dear duckling's chassunah.

Do paid ads show up in every post, and not just once a page?
