DH is hoping to finally learn to drive. He was unable to when he was younger, but now, we don't have a car, and we don't live near any siblings or parents, some cousins live nearby though, but they'd probably be very busy with their schedule. Anyone have any suggestions as to how dh could practice while he learns?

TIA!

We have a similar prob. DH got his permit and trying to practice. so far he's only been to lessons with an instructor and thats kinda expensive. I guess you haveto weigh how important it is and how fast you want him to get it. Bein hazmanim ppl are usually more avail to help (friends Neighbors) it might be worth it to wait. otherwise you should have him practice with an instructor.

Doesn't a licensed driver need to be in the car w/ him? Would that person be you? I don't know about you, but being in the passenger's seat w/ a beginning driver would make me a frequent poster in the Sholom Bayis section...You could always buy a cheap car w/ the intention of that becoming your car once he passes the test (or a car that someone is thinking of donating--like a car on the brink of being tossed and drive it around the block, in parking lost, etc). But he really does need a teacher to show him to paralell park and other driving tips.

I don't know where you live, but in my city there is a frum community watch group that patrols the streets for 4 hours on weeknights. It's very common for kids to practice driving when their fathers, uncles, whatever have patrol - it's nice because you have to drive slowly, and there is a big sign warning other drivers that you're driving slowly. If you have that, your husband could probably see if anyone would be willing to let him drive.
