I'm wondering if most of you all were like that always, as some posters mentioned that they were always spaced out, and how many of us are not like that naturally but just have become that way due to the mommy brain and juggling so many things in life.
I belong to the second group. I am with it and sharp by nature and not at all spaced out. However, I do have moments like these since I've had kids.
So what about all of you?

I answered always been, but the fact is before becoming a mother I was able to keep things together much better despite having a slightly scatterbrained nature. I think what happens is that once you have kids there's so much more to hold together that it's more likely for some things to fall by the wayside. Hopefully nothing too vital! Also (so far, at least) kids cut into your sleep in a serious way, and I know that once you start messing with my sleep, beware!
But then, my only kid is still an infant so hopefully one day she will sleep through the night and I will get used to her needs (though they'll keep changing and I suspect I'll never quite keep up) and maybe I'll get a bit of my brain back.
But think about it:
Before kids life consisted of me and DH: eat, go to work, come home, eat, some shopping cooking and laundry.
With kid: First of all, every time you go to do something the kid starts kvetching for something so you get derailed and might not remember to get back to what you were originally doing. Then, every time you have to go somewhere, there's two people to bundle up, one of whom needs to come with accessories - diapers, pacifier, something that'll get left behind... and you can only leave once baby is fed and clean, neither state of which necessarily lasts long enough to reach the door. Add to your daily routine besides getting to work also need to get child to sitter, with accessories. Add to weekly/monthly routine (depending how old of course) pediatrician checkups and the occasional sick visit. That's besides whatever your life consisted of before, and with interruptions in sleep. And you wonder why you feel less put-together than before.

| I used to be quite put together before I had kids. Now I can't remember things from one minute to the next. Seeker explained it pretty well, except that I have 3 kids. Triple everything she wrote and you get the picture of what my life is like.

Oh boy was I spacey as a kid! I was the kid sitting at the table, eating my supper, and going, "Ma, what's for supper tonight?" _________________ That's the way the cookie crumbles...

| I chose always have been, but like others said, I was still pretty put together before. Yeah, I might have forgotten where I put something down, and always found myself calling my cellphone to find it. (and sometimes it rang in my pocket.) But, I never made some of the bigger mistakes I seem to be making lately.

I heard that with every child, a piece of your brain goes to this child - you can imagine how I look like with 8 kids!!
