As an Albany resident who is always encouraging frum Jews to move to the area, I can honestly say DONT DO IT. They have 10 kids or less in the whole school on average (I'm guessing) and its pretty much just an extension of the grade school.

| Why not do it? Is the school not a good school? The fact that it is small could be a positive thing for some girls, Does it have a dorm? Is there something specifically bad about it? What do you mean by it's just an extension of the day school? Can you be more specific? Do they have a web site?

| BTW, the reason I'm looking into it is because it is close to home.

I would like to weigh in here. I teach in the girl's HS in Albany. It's a good little school -- right for some girls but not for all. Academically, the school is very good. They study Chemistry, Biology, Algebra, Geometry, English & History in accordance with NY state standards. The girls all pass their Regent's Exams every year, most in the top 25%. Since it's such a small group, there are no options for course choices -- which can be limiting, of course. The teachers do make divisions within each class in terms of expectations and subjects covered, based on their grade levels and mastery of the subject. The Jewish studies are with very knowledgable (Chabad) Rebbeim and Rebbitzens. I teach art to them once a week, and we've been doing some very advanced and innovative art projects -- not just crafts, but real art concepts.
Any girl who comes here must know that she'll be in a very small group of girls and socially, it can be difficult. But this current group of girls is very close and seem to enjoy each other's company. Perhaps the other respondent was remembering back about 3 years when we had a more toxic mix of girls (socially). I only work with the girls once a week and am not involved in the administration, but I can honestly say that they are good, modest girls, they enjoy learning, and their teachers are very dedicated to making their school experience positive and worthwhile.
Today, I saw a graduating senior working one-on-one with a career counselor -- I thought this was a very nice! The 4th grade (Gen Studies) teacher gave them a cooking class today -- they were all happily working (and eating) in the kitchen at the end of the day. Last week they went to the NY statehouse and met the speaker of the house (a Jew!). They run a weekly bake sale (my kids live for this) and organize & operate a monthly pizza night at the school. The girls are active in Friendship Circle and do many acts of chesed.
Anyway, bring your daughter to visit ...and make your own decision. L'Hatzlacha!
