For those that connect the costumes to the MM, do you put a picture of the kids/family on the MM? Or just through the poem/note, or hoping that the recipient will be home to see the "whole package?"

Thanks to the Purim spirit here, I have just ordered adorable (and cheap!) clown costumes for my kids (they are matching boy-girl ones with yarn hair attached to a hat). I don't plan on tying it into the MM as I've never done this (and clown costumes just SCREAM candy, sugar and artificial coloring and I give real food) but I thought it would be nice to have the note tying in the two adars and double the joy with the two clowns.

What do you say, include pics of the kids in the costumes or not? Or only on the ones to family/ people that would care about seeing pics of my kids (I happen to love seeing pictures of other people's kids - is everyone like that?)

Last year I connected our mm to ds's costume and had the same question. I noticed that cvs photo department was giving 50 free prints for any new customers who signed up online. The pictures came out a drop fuzzy but for free prints (and I picked up in the store so free shipping) it worked well. You can check if they are still having this deal.

If I do it I would probrably just color copy the picture.

I coordinate my kids costumes to the mm. I like to take pictures of them before purim, so that I know I have some.

In the past, I either printed one picture in wallet size or color copied them in small & used that as the card. I write the to & from on the back of it & attach it to the ribbon.

I think it's nice & I enjoy getting pictures too. But I mostly give to family & some friends.

The only year I did it was last year. I was due, and I didn't want a mishloach manos that relied on me to put it together, but I still wanted it bikavodik.
The kids were pirates, and so I made broccoli "pies" (quiches really), and a pirate themed goody bag of some gelt and gold wrapped candies for the loot (u'shlalam l'voz).
I printed out a picture of the kids in the costumes (taken a month before), wrote the heading of u'shlalam l'voz, A freilichin Purim from the ___________ "pie"rates, and rolled it up like a treasure map? megillah? who knows...
Tied it together even though it was a pretty otherwise random MM.

I dont go for putting in pics. My friends that include photos, I look at them, smile, if its really cute show dh and then chuck it. My siblings go on fridge for a few days/weeks until they get replaced by my own. I like to take a pic for my mother she like s them but other than that, I wouldn't do it

Every year, I've taken pics and added it to the MM or put it in the cards to make it more personal. I put our names on it too and punch a hole and attach it with ribbon. What I do is use a photo editing program and put 2 on one picture and then print 4x6 and cut them in half so if I get a deal of $0.10 a picture, it's only $0.05 a card!

(Oh, mine was a photo I put on the computer, used as a background for the message, and printed out on regular paper.)

If you truly care that your recipients get the "whole package," then by all means include a photo. At least here, when everyone is out delivering MM, packages will be left on the doorstep as everyone is out. Very few people will see the children's costumes.

Expect that the photo will be discarded. Don't be offended if it isn't in your friends' photo albums.

I'll say this loud and clear:

I hate the idea of putting photos on MM or upsherin pekelech, or bris pekelech or whatever. No one is really that interested (ok, maybe with a newborn they are) and it's a waste of energy, time and money. To me it's also a complete 'show off' thing.

not necessarily- for me it would be more of a "signature"- I dont really write poems, and a picture will just let everyone know who its from Smile im not one for showing off my kids, but I dont think theres anything wrong with pictures. (also, I didnt read any other posts in this thread, so I have no idea what its really about, other than pictures on mishloach manos)

I didn't say it's wrong. I said I hate the idea. Period. Smile

Disagree Life's great.

I think it depends who you send mm to. I don't send to the whole world. My siblings, parents, & grandparents are all very happy to get pictures. Two of our grandparents who go away for purim don't get to see the kids, so they really appreciate it. I take it over either before or after purim.

Waste of time it isn't cuz purim is a hectic day & I like to make sure I have some pics of the kids before. Waste of money not really either, cuz I never paid more than a few cents for them.

Hmm...my husband thinks it's cute so I think I may do it. I could care less if people throw it out right away - that's why b'davka I would just color copy it - photo paper seems more like I am giving something of permanence.

I am not sure I understand the showing off thing per say (is it a general ayin hara thing?)...but I totally disagree re: upsherin pics. Not the pekelach, but on both the invitation and bentchers for my son's upsherin we had his picture on it. For something like that, NONE of my hesitations with the MM apply. Because I know that everyone invited to our simcha does care about seeing how he looks (or should care!).

I put a photo of the kids dressed up as it does tie-in to the MM usually. last year I just printed it off the computer and stuxck it on, I dont crae if ppl throw it away after. I mainly give to relatives an a few close friends so why not?
I dont usually bother with a poem as the packaging is usually tied to the theme but not necessarily the contents. Eg. I bought a fire-engine party-box the year we were firemen but just put red and yellow snacks inside.
