That's it! This girl on the subway yesterday appeared to be channeling a very repressed David Bowie, or possibly a brunette Conan O'Brien. _________________ No kids. No comment.

Sorry Shlomit but that's not it. It's held by at least two clips and a hairband and alot of hairspray otherwise it could never stand up at that unnatural position. |
now I'm beyond curious ,sounds very vanilla ice http://www.last.fm/music/Vanilla+Ice/+images/34008131 ...can you play paparazzi? and post some pics!!! I thought for sure chavi had it right _________________

| When I see very frum BY girls wearing a high poof it makes me laugh. The look came back into style after Snooki from Jersey Shore shot to fame. She is notorious for her high bumps and like many other trends, slowly but surely BY girls picked it up. Don't get me wrong, I dont care if someone is influenced by current fashion trends (I certainly am) but its kinda ironic.

| if ur really into the look, blush wigs sell a wig called a poof wig. Its exactly that. a poof in the front. the hair is sewn in backward by the bangs, so it naturally goes back. It looks like ur own hair. I hate the look, but you cant tell ur wearing a wig with this type of poof wig.

Personally I prefer something that looks like a sheitel, but if you can find someone that makes lacefront wigs, that'll do it for you. They're meant to blend into your natural look, but cover everything. Hair is very multidirectional and they'd work like a fall with no scalp line, but a lower (natural) front hairline. _________________ Sheva yipol tzadik v'kam, v'kam, v'kam.....

just looking at some pictures my friends posted on fb of me and classmates circa 1992. a few of us have bumps.

I am sorry so many people are making fun of the hair style rather than giving you advice. It seems like "what do you think of bumps" should be reposted as a survey somewhere so your question could be answered.
First of all I am not sure where you want your bump. If you want it before your headband with a fall than you can only bump up your own front hairs. Or you could wear two headbands and poof up the part of your fall between the two headbands. Like this but you would need the first headband to be thicker http://media.redgaloshes.com/sq/273/013312.jpg.
I think of the front bump as a nod to the 80s thought it is done in a more modern way these days.
If you want the bump/volume behind the headband of your fall that is more of a mod 60's style. http://www.hji.co.uk/hjimages/images/qhs28624/hji/medium/2008-volume-headband.jpg If your real hair is long enough I would arrange your ponytail as high on your head as possible to give the fall some root lift. Most sheitel machors can show you how to tease the under hairs or use velcro rollers to create volume.
Another option is to wear your sheitel with your bangs styled normally and create a poof by light teasing, a roller, or that bump maker someone linked. Then you can support the style with a headband or using bobby pins to secure it. _________________ I can't spell or proofread. Consider yourself warned.

Befpre Snooki (who is un-original as they come) there was...Amy Winehouse. I think that's the style Snooki was trying to copy.

Barbara you're good! I couldn't find it at all and btw I love the frumsatire blog, is he still doing it?
Yes, that's it unfortunately but I have to say I've seen higher bumps than that, maybe it's getting worse with time (that picture is from 2009). _________________ Let your fellow's honor be as dear to you as your own and do not anger easily (Pirkei Avos/t)

Earnest- You are totally right. I completely forgot about Amy Winehouse! I stand corrected. Although now its even funnier- I didnt think there was a worse train wreck then Snooki!
Btw- Im not making fun I just think from a soicological point it is interesting to note the origins of trends. Particularly when a trend seeps into a population that prides itself on being seperate from the secular world.

| It fell flat everytime I tried....thanks for the advice and no - I just wanted a little pouf, not a HUGE "bump" like in those pictures. Oh well!

lollygirl,
what I do is take some hair out, then gather it together, twist it the middle and then push it forward and secure it with a bunch of bobby pins or kippah clips
like is to make a SMALL bump, not the ones posters are describing here..
good luck!

Of course you can do whatever you want but I have to say this especially if you're going to go so far as to pull out some hair to achieve it. I don't know who started this fad but I HATE IT! All these pretty chasidishe girls are voluntarily making themselves ugly.
Good, now I feel better. |
Uh the Chasidish girls with the poufs are not showing their hair, most of them don't have any hair...it's all their wig. |
Can I do the uh too ? Uh, I think you might be mixing up two different things, 1-the style of the girls 2-the OP wanting to maintain that style now that she's married.
Mamabear, I tried to google it but I guess nobody else finds it very interesting. I wonder what would happen if I brought my camera to Shoppers's Haven and started taking random pictures? If you live in a chasidishe community you must have seen it, and no it's nothing like the old poufy styles. |
It looks exactly like what my friends and I wore in the early 90's. And no, it wasn't confined to the Chassidish girls then, nor is it now.
