Hi everyone,
I am OVERWHELMED with the amount of dinner ideas on this site. Some post their menus for the week and they look delicious. Where are the recipes? Others post recipes I have tried and well, they are blah...If we can all take a few minutes to post some tried, tested and true dinners WITH recipes it would be appreciated! I've spent too many hours scouring the website with pages and pages of ideas with few actual recipes or ones that were nothing to write home about. I can start! Thanks in advance. I am sure there will be many happy dh's
Delicious, easy chicken with rice/noodles
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, chopped (or 1/4 teaspoon dried)
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
sesame oil, for sauteing
In a bowl mix the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, garlic, brown sugar and the ginger. Make sure the sugar has pretty much dissolved. Add the chicken, making sure it's all coated with the sauce. Put in fridge for a few hours or overnight. Remove the chicken from the marinade, and toss out the marinade left at the bottom of the bowl. Heat the sesame oil in a large non-stick pan. Add the chicken in batches and saute for about 10 minutes, or until done, adding more sesame oil as needed. Remove the chicken from the pan and let cool slightly. Slice the chicken diagonally into thin strips. Serve chicken over rice or noodles. YUM!

Lemon Curry Chicken
6 chicken thighs, skinless and bone in (can adapt the recipe for boneless chicken)
1 egg, beaten
1 cup bread crumbs
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tsp. curry powder (it's good without the curry too but not as good)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
Dip chicken in egg and breadcrumbs. Bake upside down in a 9 by 13 pan at 400 for 1/2 hour (less for boneless). Combine the remaining ingredients. Flip chicken pieces over and pour the glaze over them. Bake 1/2 hour more.
REALLY YUMMY!!

So far, I'm very excited to try the above recipes!
Here's mine: It's not fancy, but it is YUM. (And very easy/cheap to make!)
We call it Ketchup Chicken:
Chicken quarters, skin intact (how many you need, top/bottom, whatever you like)
Ketchup
Onions, circle sliced (one or two medium/big for 3-4 quarters)
Water
Fill the pot with water (it shouldn't cover the chicken when you put the chicken in). You can turn on the flame at this point. Add circle sliced onion(s). Squirt a heap of ketchup in the pot, depending on how much you like- it will not taste like ketchup AT ALL. Give a little mix around. Place the quarters of chicken in the pot and cook for an hour to an hour and a half. I like to turn the quarters upside down after it's half cooked- it takes in much more flavor like that. In the meantime, cook or bake rice. Serve the chicken with rice on the side, and pour the sauce from the chicken on the rice. The less water you put in the pot, the thicker and more flavorful the sauce will be.
Like I said, this recipe is not fancy, but I've made it for different occasions and ALWAYS got RAVE REVIEWS! The chicken itself also tastes really good. If I didn't tell you that it has ketchup, you'd never guess. Of course, pm me with any questions.

? Why is it a bad idea to have dinners with recipes that are known to be good? I haven't seen threads like this that have exclusive dinner recipes, not just menus. Maybe you can send me the link to the threads you speak of. Thanks!

all of my recipes are tried and true.
I suggest you look through recipes and see what looks good to you, with ingredients you have in the house already or can afford to buy. THEN cook.

I actually think this is great! I'm always searching for a change of menu...gets boring after a while, especially with my dh being extremely picky....
Got this from the mishpacha a while ago, and whoever made it loved it!
Crispy oven-baked chicken:
4 chicken bottoms
Crispy Coating
2 Tbsp oil
1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. cornmeal
1/4 c. cornflake crumbs
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp parsley flakes
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp garlic powder
oil spray
Egg Coating
1 large egg
1 Tbsp mayonnaise
Preheat oven to 350. Put 2 Tbsp of oil in 9x13" pan and set aside.
Combine all Crispy coating ingredients in small bowl. Mix egg and Mayonnaise with fork in separate bowl.
Dip chicken in Egg mixture, then coat well with crispy coating. Place in oiled pan. Spray tops of chicken w/ oil spray. Bake uncovered for 75-90 min.
Tip: prepare in morning, and spray right before putting in oven. Works great for me when I'm out late!

Lolly, I love the idea. Thought of starting such a thread myself.
But the problem is that everyone has different tastes. So what chocolate mousse loves, I may say "gr8! let's make this for dinner!" and then the outcome ends up in the garbage.
But maybe the recipe that Lollygirl posted in the thread "don't bother trying - it failed" actually was a big hit in my house.
It's very hard to do this.
But what I wish existed, is a site like allrecipes.com of just kosher recipes, with a rating system. You can decide by the ratings & comments if that would work by you, and then it's luck. But I would say that 90% of the recipes that I've tried on allrecipes, have been successes without any changes needed.

I make this and add sauted chicken cut into peices into it to make it a complete supper. You could probably also add some broccolli or snap peas or onions, etc. to add a veggie aspect.

YALT - this is still very new so not that many ratings per recipe, but I think it's going in the direction of what allrecipes.com is - just needs more people visiting!

Mushy Meat
sautee one large or two small onions in large frying pan.
Add broken up chopped meat until browned.
add some garlic powder and pepper.
Pour in marinara sauce (can also add in a little ketchup too if want- I do)
Lower heat and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
Serve with noodles, spaghetti, or as sloppy joe with hamburger buns

Baked chicken cutlets with farfel:

trim and clean one package of shnitzel.
spread mayo on both sides of each cutlet
dip in mixture of cornflake crumbs and bread crumbs, then place in 9x13 pan. spray with pam and cover, bake for 1/2 hour on 350.
Farfel: I use the Osem Isreali Couscous - have not tried any other brand
Saute two small onions (diced) till translucent
Add one bag of farfel and brown it.
Add two cups of water, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, mix.
