has anyone ever travelled 4-5 hours with ice cream in a cooler with ice packs?
I dont want to get there and end up with ice cream soup.
I traveled 2-3 hours in the bags without ice packs and with homemade ice cream (which melts quicker) and it was great. So I imagine it would work.

| I would seriously think about assembling it there, or making something that travels easily.

| Quote: | girliesmommy- I would love to have the recipe but I'm not sure how it works with giving out the recipes when I dont own the cookbook. |
Someone, I don't remember who, once posted a link about the copyright issues with recipes, and IIRC it said that as long as it's rewritten in your own words it's ok.
So, here's the recipe, feel free to use it or not!
Cake:
1 3/4 cups flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. bakin powder
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 cup non-dairy creamer or milk
1/2 cup oil
2 tsps. vanilla
1 cup boiling water
Chocolate Cream:
1 cup non-dairy creamer or milk
1 (2.8 oz.) box instant chocolate pudding
1 (8 oz) container whipping cream
Vanilla cream:
1 (8 oz) container whipping cream
Crushed cookies (choc. chip or sandwich)
Chopped up peanut chews
Cake:
* Preheat oven to 350.
* They say to use 2 round pans the same size as your trifle bowl (approx. 8 1/2 inches diameter)and to put the cakes in whole. I use a 9x13 pan and crumble the cake into the trifle bowl.
* Grease and flour whichever pans you choose to use.
* Mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Wisk or stir until well blended.
* Beat in eggs, creamer or milk, oil and vanilla & beat until smooth
* Fold in boiling water with a spoon or spatula
* Bake for 50 minutes & then let cake cool completely
Chocolate cream:
* Mix creamer/milk with pudding.
* Whip the whipping cream
* Fold cream into pudding mixture
Vanilla cream:
* Whip the cream alone.
Setting up the trifle:
Starting from the bottom, layer cake, then chocolate cream, vanilla cream, cookie crumbs, peanut chews. Repeat.
It looks a lot harder than it is, and the chocolate cake recipe is perfect... it tastes Milchig, and it's so moist!
Enjoy!
Edited to fix the white quote box that was irking me!!

same here. I also sometimes make mini ones in dessert bowls for individual servings. Sometimes I leave out the peanut chews, and they are still delicious and presentable. _________________ http://aroundthedinnertable.blogspot.com/

girliesmommy, this recipe is awesome. I made it this morning, put it in the fridge, and I just had a piece, and its soo yummy. it wasnt hard at all.
so this is what happneed. I finished one whole layering of the ingredients, and it was allready up to the top, so I had to smush stuff down. anyway, nexxt time I would add maraschino cherries just to give it a slight more candy sweetness.. o it was heaven. Im defnitly making this for my sons upserhin instead of buying expensive cakes.
thanks so much!!!

does anyone think that if I use whipped cream instead of whipping cream it would work?
is whipped cream the same as whipping cream already whipped?
(trying to save a step in the work)

| Oh, GR, I remember that a few weeks ago you asked about keeping ice cream in a cooler for 4 hours. It definitely shouldn't be a problem. My dad just drove 22 hours, and the cooler still had ice in it. I looked at the label on the cooler, which said that it kept food cold for 4 days.

girliesmommy, is the cake recipe you posted for the trifle supposed to fill up both cake pans, or am I supposed to double the recipe?
shayna82, what did you do when you made the trifle- double the recipe, or just split the batter in half?

he's all upshernished!
he looks beautiful
he is usually shy, but at the upshernish he went around to every single person with coins and a pushka, and everyone gave tzedaka.
then he stood on a chair and recited the first four psukim word for word by heart and everyone repeated after him. (he knows the rest of them in songs, but not word by word- we're working on it.)
he let everyone cut his hair, no problem!
we used a machine on him afterwards and at first he was scared of the noise. so I told him it sounds like a vaccuum, and he understood that to mean that the machine was going to vaccuum up all his hair! so he wasnt scared anymore.
I was nervous about what he would think the first time he looked in the mirror after his haircut, so we cut it in front of a mirror, and he saw himself with short hair, and then shorter and shorter, until his haircut was complete. we raced home after the upshernish to give him a full haircut before shkia, since its the three weeks.
now let's just see how his younger brother will react to his new look tomorrow morning.
and the food all turned out great. the falafels and pitas with all the stuffers, all the salads, the trifle was delicious, and the melon letters were gorgeous.
originally I was going to place chocolate alef-bais letters up against the glass bowl of the trifle with the vanilla cream as the background, but it didnt work- the letters started to sink. so instead I put them on top of the entire trifle in a circle, and came out beautiful.
the melon letters took longer than I thought- about 2 hours- because each slice of melon had to be cut exactly evenly, not too thick and not too thin. we wrote with the letters "Mazel Tov," "Yom Holedes Sameach," his name, and also a bunch of 3's, and placed them on platters. (watermelon, canteloupe, and honeydew)
people kept admiring the trifle and the fruit platters.
BH.
