I live in Brooklyn and Im wondering how many people tip their garbage man, mail man, UPS- and no- I dont get deliveries all day every day, but its always the same guy- for the holidays-
if so- how much?

So far my list for Chanukah/xmas is

Rebbi
Teacher (Pre school)
group collection for teaches in English Department
group collection for 2 kids in a Bais Yaakov
4 Bus Drivers
Private Van driver
and then I dont know if I should do the above.

Any input please, and if so, how much?

I'm in lakewood not bklyn but I tip mailman, bus drivers (different amts - depending on how nice they are and how much they go out of their way. the driver who stops at our house gets more than the one who won't). I only tip UPS guy if I see him alot that time of year. I don't tip the garbage men since I'm not up that early. Otherwise my list is the same as yours for the schools and playgroups.

We leave a case of beer out for the garbage men and either a $20 or a bottle of wine for the mailman. I don't know if legally you're allowed to leave alcohol out for service men anymore but it never stopped anyone from taking it!

We give Chanukah gelt to teachers and rebbeim. We do not tip bus drivers until the end of the year. We give the garbagemen around $20-$25 in January (my husband's shita is not to tip during holiday season), and boy do we get our money's worth with our garbagemen. They know that we tip them every year, and they are extremely helpful with taking everything away - recycling or not, piled up properly or not.

Wanted to agree with that. We also give either before of after the season not during. We used to tip the bus drivers at the end of the year but sometimes I missed them and than didn't give. I also decided that if you tip now, they are more likely to go out of their way - at the end of the year it's too late.

I never saw the mailman, but we used to tip the superintendent of our building about $100 every Chanuka. But I think we were the only ones in a building of 36 who did that.

We also do my son's rebbi and bus driver.

You'll get more at of your buck if you tip the bus drivers during the year instead of at the end. I tip the UPS driver - 20. Tthe mailman -$25. I have 3 bus drivers. 3 rebbeim 1 tutor 1 ot ,1 pt ,the cleaning lady and someone I work with.
