MommyZ, I understand that you are sensitive to the issue, but I really didn't get the impression that OP was tainting all policemen with the same brush. I sounded like her plea for "cops" in her title was that she wanted the input of anyone who has an understanding of how the police force works, in order to know better how to complain.
What

Thanks mummy for clarifying. This is exactly what I had in mind when posting, I have a question for cops, "how are civilians protected from a lying cop?" Since you (cops) know your system best, pls help us how to go from here.

Mommy Z, how can the internal affairs know for certain who is saying the truth?

They investigate and their investigation hopefully uncovers the truth.

Thank you.

No problem.

Living in this great country and complaining about cops...

So it's OK if a policeman is lying, as long as he doesn't kill people?

I would say it's the fact that people complain when police do something wrong that prevents a situation where police think they can literally get away with murder. Complaining doesn't always mean ingratitude.

I agree!!!

I think it's wonderful we live in countries where we can complain about the law enforcement.

However, that does not justify some of the comments on this thread about how corrupt cops are. That *is* ungrateful and wrong.

I didn't know this. Are there any human rights groups that protest this?

Yeah, there are all kinds of meetings, protests, rallies... and then the cops show up. Or OMON. The guys in the black masks with the tear gas and the dogs. And they disperse the protests.

We were also wondering if police/traffic officers get some type of consenquence if they issue a ticket wrongly? Do they get points off or something? If not, whats to stop from from slamming tickets right and left (besides the oath)?

The sheer amount of paperwork involved is enough to prevent that.
