I would want leather, fake leather or rubber to keep out the snow, but it needs traction. lining makes it warm. I would not get suede because its not very water proof and it gets ruined.

I bought these in a hideous pink for my girls just for snow. They have regular boots for cold weather. They look nice and warm and waterproof. I was disappointed they were out of stock for my son.

I know it's probably not in your budget, but years ago I got fabulous real-leather boots from LL Bean, which were made in Canada. Non slip black rubber soles with just a bit of a heel. They look like riding boots and go most of the way up my legs. They are 12 years old now and look as good as new (okay, I haven't worn them much here in Israel, for the past 7 years). As opposed to all the other boots I got while living in the U.S., these are actually waterproof! Nice enough to wear on Shabbat, then kept me warm and dry shoveling our corner lot in New Jersey during the blizzards we experienced there in 2002 and 2003. They kept me warm in the howling cold winter in Chicago. I never would have thought of buying them but DH got a gift certificate for LL Bean which we had to use.
So, the point is, maybe Canadian boots are good?
You may want to see if Sierra Trading Post has anything good to offer. They tend(ed?) to carry items suitable for extreme weather. Also Campmor.

My daugher likes her Canadian boots but I found that mine went much too high on the leg for me, were too heavy feeling and uncomfortable to wear.

I have to buy boots in a store, not online, for that reason.

Thanks! I hope to get to Target one of these days. In the meantime, I have boots ordered from shoebuy (was out of my budget until I combined a 20% coupon code with 10% back from ebates and I forgot what % back from my credit card -- ends up being cheaper than $30 boots + tax at a store Smile)...so if they don't work out, I'll try Target. Good to know they have snow boots.
