Split ends?

I have a shevy elite that is getting split ends after 1 year. I was told it should last longer (and I would like to think that was not just salesmanship) so I suspect I am washing it in the wrong thing - what should I be using to protect the hair? I wash it myself about 2/3 of the time and have it done professionally every few months.

also, can anyone recommend a good flatiron for wigs? (I've been using a blow drier, with mixed results...)

When I was very careful to only air-dry my sheitels, they lasted almost 10 years. I think wet styling hair/wigs, (using pin curls or reg. curlers,) or a difuser and hand scrunching the hair: I.e.(almost) heat-free styling, is a specialty for hair/wig stylists. Now there's a niche. Once the fiber gets roughened up, you gotta use 'product' like restructurizer, moisterizer for hair (baby buttercreme with lanolin, shea butter, cocoa butter) and always use a heat protector spray. Ray's Beauty Supply, 212-757-0175 at 45th and 8th Ave, Theater District in Man. has professional products. 5 years ago, I bought a top of the line hair straightener/iron with digital temp. controls, ceramic, vented, for 150 dollars called Forma. I don't know what they have in 2010. /bye
