| |
I learned that we should save the best for Pesach. On the other hand, I also learned to honor and beautify Shabbos.
When I got married, my father sent me a complete unopened set of beautiful china dishes that my grandmother (she had passed away several years before I got married) had purchased slowly over the years for me. She had worked hard to buy all the pieces, and every year when I use it for Pesach I think of her. The funny thing is, my MIL had given me a tablecloth for Pesach that exactly matched the pattern of the china without seeing it! I always felt it was a sweet hashgacha pratis.
We were never able to afford Shabbos dishes, and used our regular fleishigs for Shabbos. It always bothered me. The other thing is that although I've been making Pesach since our second year of marriage, I have limited guests and as of now, all my children are young, B"H. Therefore, I barely got to use the dishes at Pesach...although the seder table glows with them.
I keep thinking that maybe I should take out the china and make it Shabbosdig, instead of keeping it for Pesach. But the "fear" (not real fear) of "offending" Pesach when we're supposed to keep the best for then makes me hesitate. My husband also thought to keep it for Pesach but understands my back and forth with myself, and said whatever I want to do basically.
What do you think? I hope this doesn't sound too strange , I don't spend all my time weighing out every single decision. In fact, I'm not sure why this is so hard for me to decide!

If you have nicely set up Shabbos tables and guest, I'd definitely take it for Shabbos and buy a nice, but not that expensive set for Pesach. At the end of the day, Pesach's 8 days and you can enjoy this set every week. _________________ Live the life you want to live. Be the person you want to remember. Make decisions. Make mistakes. What life's great said.
Tadir ve-she-eino tadir, tadir kodem. Given that which is frequent and that which is infrequent, the frequent occurrence gets priority.
Speaking for myself, if I gave my g-daughter a gift, I would want her to use it as often as possible. Especially if it made her think of me.

| Another thought - for Pesach, you can wait until the HUGE sales in Macy's etc.. and get a beautiful set for cheap.

Thanks everyone. I think I might just pull them out to use every Shabbos (and the other chagim). I really love them and am always somewhat wistful by Pesach because I hardly get to use them.
LG, when are the huge sales? _________________ Life is not about who you can stand on top of, but who you can lift up!

The very big sales are most likely on black friday and after x-mas, or even close to x-mas.
