Did anyone have any success with making a shaitel using your own hair? How exactly does it work? Who did it for you and how much did you pay for it? Were u happy in the end?
What are the halachic requirements? I've heard you need to mix in a certain percentage of other hair. How much?

| I had a friend who did it, it was very expensive and in the end, they made a mistake and used someone else's hair. p.s. you have to cut your hair mad short

You can do it, it won't cost less though, also, It is unlikely that your hair will be enough to fill the whole wig.
If you want a 14 inch finished length wig, you need 18 inch length of hair for the part area, 16" for the middle, 14" for closer to the bottom and 12" for the nape.
Being that hair is not the same length at the top of your head, as it is at the bottom, cutting off your ponytail will give you MANY different lengths. From that, many will be too short to be usable, some will be damaged/ split, and those will be pulled out.
When all is said and done, you need 6-8 oz of hair, and it is very unlikely that all the hair will come from one head.

| l'halacha, you cannot use your own hair. However, you could find a friend and each make each other a shaitel!

Right but I was thinking I would grow out my hair a few times and save it all...

Please give a source bc I also heard it's okay and I know someone that did it.
Swapping with a friend would defeat the purpose...I want MY hair!
