Please help me out. The first bar mitzva is coming up in my extended family and I am kind of clueless about what to bring for the kiddush. What can I do that is simple and easy to make, yet looks elegant and professional??? I would like to give a platter that does not look homemade yet be able to put it together myself. Any ideas for a bar mitzva?????

Mazal Tov! You should always (and only) have Simchas to prepare for!
Alot depends on where you are and what's usually done in your circles.
Here are some things I've seen. Some require patience but most don't require real patchke. If you want more details for any of them let me know.
1. Choc marshmallow and graham cracker tefillin (these can really be stunning and are not too hard to put together)
2. winkie Torahs (a little bit on the cuter side, but less common and always admired)
3. cookies or chocolates in appropriate shapes (cookie cutters and chocolate molds are not usually a huge investment and you can make these into your 'signature' Bar Mitzvah contribution)
4. mini trifles (these are always very popular)
5. assorted homemade cookies (an assortment of even simpler cookies always looks professional, especially if you do smaller cookies, bars, etc)

A trifle is always pretty. Choc cake/whipped cream/mousse or choc pudding layered in a glass bowl OR Vanilla cake/whipped cream/strawberries
Black and White cookies
Mint Brownies
Marble Cookies
Lace Cookies
Linzer Cookies

I did something really nice. I made crinkle cookies (or any other cookies) and around the platter I made torah cookies. Not so hard but a little time consuming. You need tea biscuits, presidora cookies (with cream filling) and thin pretzel sticks, and melted chocolate. Break the presidora in half stick a pretzel through it carefully. Dip the ends of the pretzels in the melted choc. Then use A LITTLE choc on both ends of the tea biscuit to act as glue for the two halfs of the presidora. Then I printed this papers that said bar mitzah shel... Went over really well!!

If you would like you can PM me and I can email the template for the papers.

I would use chocolate tea biscuits when I do this again... Also less choc. too much makes oil stains

make basic white cookies. when cool dip them in choc and then in sprinkles. easy to do and looks nice - tasted good also.

make brownies and pour the batter into shaped aluminum foil - I have found stars shaped or just a personal size hexagon. add a dap of whipped cream before serving and looks amazing.

or make a pan of cake or brownies. cover with chocolate frosting. pipe colored icing in thin lines, then with a toothpick make lines going up and down the cake. it makes a really cool design, looks fancy but is really simple and easy.

any cake that u make, if u cut it in a nice shape and put it into cupcake holders it looks fancy

also a bundt cake with a nice icing has a very nice look - especially if u put something around the base of the cake
