DH is not feeling so great about giving DSs Morah an end of the year gift. He feels like since June wasn't a full school month, but we paid full tuition that he already gave her a "gift". I think we just paid a yearly tuition on a monthly basis so I look at it differently. Plus next year's deposit and camp are all do at the same time so money is tight.

Also I really appreciate her. I am not always perfectly on time, I forget to bring snack, and my son is not the easiest child, but she took good care of him and so did the assistant. This year he learned so much and they were both a part of it. (This is an in home morning playgroup in Brooklyn.)

I can't think of any words which say how much I appreciate them. I also can't think of a proper gift that is thoughtful, but not pricey. For Chanukah I gave one a Target gift card and one a dunkin donuts gift card, but now I don't see her go there so much anymore. I don't know if mani/pedi places are good gifts if the person doesn't have child care...that is why my nails are never done... and I don't know a good place that is convenient. One Morah always wears Old Navy stuff but maybe she has a charge card there with lots of benefits. I just can't think of a good gift!

if she has kids you can give her a gift certificate to a toy store.
Sometimes keeping the kids busy so she can have a break is the best thing!

think out of the box. a nice vase or water pitcher is always useful with a nice card that you can have your son help you make. Daffys has a nice selection of inexpensive gifts . I found as a teacher that it wasnt so much the gift but a nice thank you letter shows that the parent took the time to express appreciation.

OY! Just remind him how much more tuition would be in the other months if you divided it up based on the days of school in a particular month. Instead, the schools AND families can do their finances better if it's an annual tuition divided by 10 or 12 months!

Go to homegoods, and for $10 you can find a beautiful salad bowl, serving platter or serving spoons

when I was single, there weren't many things that people could get me. the nicer ones were gift certificates to Legaacy, a makeup store, and Eichlers. I also got the mini Artscroll illustrated Perek Shira, which I already had, but it was such a sweet thought. If there is a new sefer like that, it's really nice.
Once I was married, I got some bowls/serving dishes which I really enjoy and use all the time- and I think about the students who gave them to me every time!

What is a nice amount to give on a gift card that is substantial and doesn't look cheap but won't break the bank. How much for a teacher? How much for a assistant?

make sure you write a nice card telling her how much you appreciate her. many times I've appreciated that more than the random gift that isn't my style.
