| |
My daugther's school assigned a project that each child needs to make something that they like/love/means something to them about our yishuv. It can be a poem, artwork, etc.
My daughter is in first grade.
One of her friends made a model of the shul out of a cardboard box. Another friend took the emblem of the yishuv and made a big posterboard of it.
We had 3 ideas so far:
1) There is an old carob tree here that the kids love climbing on. Problem is - what do we do to model it? I couldn't think of any way to make a carob tree.
2) There is a hostel for disabled men on our yishuv and one has been our regular guest, a very special person - but my daughter vetoed this idea.
3) Doing a model of the first grade class, a cardboard box with little girls inside. My daughter likes this idea, but somehow it seems a little lame. I can't think of what to do other than pictures of girls on popsicle sticks stuck into a cardboard box.
Any other ideas? I think the main thing is what can we use to represent whatever we choose?

| I just had another idea - for each girl in her class she can write something special about that girl.

Are you Olim? Are there other Olim? Why not make a picture/diorama of people arriving with their stuff and being welcomed by the old-timers. If applicable. _________________ The future simply isn't what it used to be....

I like your ideas about doing a model of her class, girls on popsicle sticks and writing about each one! Can you build the classroom out of nosh and candy and let them eat it? _________________ "Often the things you worry about don't happen but other stuff does."

Tamiri, that is an interesting idea. There are a few new girls who just came to the yishuv this year including my daughter, and they were welcomed very nicely and are part of the gang. Somehow, I don't think I'm creative enough to implement it though.
I was also thinking about the motto for this year, a quote from R' Nachman of Breslov, a prayer that we can find the good in each of our friends. I was thinking to put that on a poster board with what my daughter likes about each girl. Sounds nice, except that it isn't exaclty about the yishuv.
Thanks for all the replies!
Isramom - maybe we'll use that idea for another special time. No candy though as I am anti-candy. but crackers could make good walls.

Re the carob tree - take photographs of it, mount and attach to board. Take carob dissect it, and attach to board. "Research" carob and describe on board. _________________ Just Plain Frum!

| How about drawing a map of yishuv on a large craft paper, and adding landmarks (like the carrob tree, school, shul) and where everyone in the class lives? YOu can cut out houses out of paper or make 3-D things with playdough or matchboxes, and stick them up.
