| Never heard of it. I'd be afraid to do it. Actually I once heard that the advice about not refrigerating hot stuff might be outdated and apply to the times when refrigeraters were very primitive. I don't wait for things to cool before refrigerating.

My DH would if I'd let him.
I let it cool just a little - because if put in the fridge super hot, it spoils the other food in the fridge.
But mostly I prepare the veggies on Thursday and refigerate them, and only put up the soup on Friday. The onion I don't peel till the day I'm using it. _________________ "Often the things you worry about don't happen but other stuff does."

I do this, never had a problem.
I usually make the soup in the evening and leave it out til the morning when I put it in the fridge. _________________ Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.

| I heard its really not healthy to do that. If you dont like the idea putting it hot in the refrigerator you can either pour it into small containers so it will cool off quickly or you can prepare the soup the night before without putting it on the fire put it straight in the refrigerator so the whole night the taste is being absorbed and then first thing in the morning put it on the fire.

| I cook my soup at night and then leave it to cook on low all night, turn it off in the morning and put in the fridge before I go to work

No, I don't, unless while waiting for it to cool a bit I fall asleep on the couch (has happened before....)
But I've also heard it's very unhealthy, and that it's much better to put it in the fridge while still hot (not boiling) than let it get to room temperature. Probably not good for the fridge or your energy bill, but best for the soup.

if I make my soup thursday I leave it on a low fire covered through the night until shabbos starts.
it ends up tasting amazing bec of all the slow cooking and I don't have to worry about finding room in my fridge.
I would never leave food out overnight. unless you sleep like 4 hours a night.

| If it is a big (8qt or more) pot with veggies and chicken in it it'll be dense enough that it takes till the morning to cool off. So I cook my soup Thurs night, leave on low all night and all Friday. Then Friday night after serving I leave the big pot covered and by morning it is lukewarm/room temp, I put it into containers and refrigerate or freeze. Tastes great reheated, I've never had a problem.

I don't get what can be unhealthy about waiting for food to cool down before freezing or putting it in the fridge. _________________ Live the life you want to live. Be the person you want to remember. Make decisions. Make mistakes. If you failed, at least you tried.

depends how long overnight is.
my dh is usually up very early so if I put my soup up late I'll ask him to put it in the fridge in the morn.
I also heard that putting very hot things in the fridge ruins it.
dunno if its true and im not particularly careful bout it.

| I prefer to put up the soup late and keep it simmering overnight. Though if we had a really large pot and I closed it as usual around 12 and DH was getting up for minyan at 6, I would definitely leave it.

My mother always said that putting hot things in the fridge will ruin the things around it. I wonder what the real reason for not putting hot things in the fridge is. Does anyone know?
