| |
My son visited the allergist and now has a confirmed peanut allergy. He's not supposed to have peanuts, other nuts, or sesame seeds.
One concern I have is that I do most of my food shopping online, where it won't be possible for me to see allergen alerts. Does anyone have a list of kosher/nut free products that they could share?

| It might take a little time before you can shop online(unless you don't live near a kosher store). My son is allergic to tree nuts and sesame and about 10 other things and my nephew to peanuts and many others. The most important thing, I've found is to be vigilant. check every package. I checked my cabinet and pashkez trio cookies have trace of peanuts. An important question to ask your dr. is if he can have trace or"shared equipment" with nuts. If you don't have access to a kosher store and let me know some foods to check, I'd be happy to look for you.

| There aren't nut free lists, sesame in the US does not need to be labeled , so it is 100% important to see the labels every time you buy something. Sometimes ingredients change with no notice. Many online sites allow you to look at labels. try to find sites like that.

there are tons of websites that have kosher peanut-free products. www.peanutfreeplanet.com and www.divvies.com are great.
good luck. my son has a sever peanut allergy as well that we discovered when he was 1 1/2. He's 5 1/2 now so we have a lot of experience with it if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

| Does divvies have a reliable hechsher. I am not familiar with it, and therefore never ordered from there. I e-mailed them for thier rabbies information but never got an answer.

KVH is the Vaad of Massachusetts. It is good for national products (some Bostonians have an issue with the hecksher for the restaurants it certifies). _________________ Interested in learning more about homeschooling?

Ummm...can I ask a question? Why might you want to purchase these products? I am sure they are delicious, but they seem quite expensive. I make fun food for my peanut (and mildly barley) allergic daughter (and for a while we thought she was allergic to wheat too). Don't you? Aside from the chocolates aren't most things somewhat easy to get if you live in a big enough city?
Puzzled ,

Because sometimes, a kid wants to be like everyone else, and eat things from a store that look the same as all the other kids.
My kids peanut allergy is the least of his allergies, he has another 20 at least, its rare I can buy him something store bought. And I hate seeing him cry when all the other kids get donuts and cupcakes, and he doesn't.

You should always check first - products can change from one minute to the next! That said, we have found that Krispy Kreme is a nut-free establishment and a number of years ago Green's has told us that their products are nut-free (packaged rugelach, cupcakes, etc). Those do it for my daughter in terms of "looking like everyone else". I don't know where you live, but there are nut-free bakeries in Toronto and Butterflake in Teaneck is nut-free and will ship to you.
Good luck - it may seem overwhelming at first, but it is something you can learn to work around and find people with the same situation whom you can turn for support!

My son is allergic to eggs and dairy and peanut and treenut( and a bunch of others), buying from bakeries that are nutfree isn't good enough for us. plus my other son is anaphalactic to sesame, making bakeries even more dangerous. that why divvies was something I wanted to try.

| Sorry - I didn't read the thread carefully. I was really responding to OP. But I will add that I have heard of a kosher candy store that is very careful and knowledgeable about allergies and you can order from them directly - I don't remember the store name or location (I THINK somewhere in the midwest maybe?). I can try to track it down for you if you are interested.
