How do you handle bedwetting with a five-year-old?

I would say put a diaper on at night
I have 3 in diapers at night and my 7 year old sometimes wets and sometimes is dry
my 9 year old was wet every night for a long time - and them just out grew it - for the last year he has not had one accident.
after seeing how he just outgrew it I let my other kids just be. I try to put diapers on teh ones I can and use plastic sheets and wash a lot of laundry.

we're in exactly the same situation as you are, without the dry 9 year old, that is.
it's good to hope they will outgrow it, but for now the laundry load/ amount of pricey large-size diapers is very frustrating

yes but from my experience bribing doesn't help and I wouldn't want to make it into a negative thing.
they don't do it on purpose -- and the fact that my son outgrew it gives me a lot of hope.
(he was terrible -wetting every night even at age 7)

1. do not make him feel bad in any way, its very likely out of his control, 2. either take him to the bathroom a couple of times each night while he is half-asleep and hold him while he uses the bathroom, or put on a diaper...I have no shame in confessing that I used to wet my bed until I was like 8 years old! and my mom never made me feel bad about it. I would just go grab a towel, lay it over the wet sheet, and go back to sleep. To this day, I need to wake up once a night to use the bathrom. Maybe I have a smal bladder?

Get the Malem Alarm (Amazon sells it). It has excellent reviews, and it worked liked a charm for my 5 year old DS (who is now 7) and has not wet the bed since we used this machine 2 years ago. Yes, maybe he'll grow out of it in a few years, but why suffer until then, and he might feel embarrased, and diapers are very expensive, and it's a pain to keep changing linen etc. It was worth every penny I spent and took less than a month till he was perfect.
