Ok so when ou say pharmaceuticals, are you talking sales for big drug companies, or working as a pharmacist...?? Working in a laboratory??
I mean working for a pharma company, probably in research and development. Actually, whatever they offer initially is a JOB. My sister in law (PhD) works for Teva and besides the salary, her benefits are amazing.

We are very serious about putting some plans in motion to make aliyah though. On a practical level, there is no way we could afford to move all the family to the States, nor afford US school fees or anything else. If it were just about the people tho, Albany would be at the top of my list Razz

Perhaps you just need to follow me to EY?!!

Hmmm. We have heavily government-subsidied jewish schools and free healthcare. No prob with the work visas if you have a grandparent born in UK. Admittedly the weather may be less appealing than EY.

Mrs Bissli - are you talking about the UK? Same thing - airfares for 5 people, soooo not happening. But it would be great to be over there, my mother lives in Scotland and used an ancestral visa initially, I dont qualify, its my great grandfather who is a Pom Smile Aside from anything else, I want to be in Israel, lol!

Ok, so lets say I have a work from home job that pays what my trusty currency converter works out to be about 85 shekels an hour, and I work school hours 5 days a week - say about 35 hours a week. Take off some hefty tax bill and say I come out with about 1500-1800 shekels a week. Life is possible on this sort of income for a family with 3 little kids living outside of a major city?

Is 85 shekels an hour a good rate of pay?

definitely...

most work at home jobs here pay 25 NIS... it's hard to even get 35 NIS...

This is doing medical transcription work with pay in Australian dollars.

So if 85 shekels is a good rate, then the take home pay must be a livable amount. I'm taking about 50% off for taxes, fees, currency conversion etc. What is the normal work week in Israel in terms of hours?

It's a good rate - the only mistake in your equation is school hours. For little children school is 8-1 (12 on Fridays) although maybe you could make up hours at night.

I thought they went on Sundays tho? Here from age 5 or so they go (Jewish school - public are even less hours) 8 - 3:15. Wouldnt matter in any case, hours could be made up at night. But would give me flexibility during the day to do what I need, and no time wasted driving/bussing to and from work. Good to have another option, I think I have two genuinely feasible options now Very Happy
