| They have in the pizza store pickled turnips that are pink and cut in thick strips. I think there might be beets in there too. Does anyone have a recipe or an idea of how to make them?

its been a while since I made it and I don't have an exact recipe.
layer the beets and turnips.
add equal amount of water and vinegar + 1 tbsp of salt for every 1/2 cup of water
crush some garlic (my grandmother said to leave the peel on- I don't know if it makes a diff) and place in the jar.
leave out to pickle for a few days before transfering to the fridge.
if you're short on time place the jar next to the stove while cooking on friday afternoon. it won't be perfect by shabbos night but def edible.
another trick my grandmother told me was to see if an egg could float in the water- if it can then it means that you have enough salt.
honestly I never tried.
good luck
and happy eating
oh and my grandmother used to own a pizza store
