There was an article in the AAA magazine this month that said that security at airports are getting very strict and the name on your ticket must match exactly the name on your passport, otherwise they might not let you through.
Is that true? Even if I'm missing a middle initial? I made tickets going home for pesach and I just wasn't so careful.
I tried contacting DELTA and they said once the ticket is issued they don't allow changes. My husband is going to be frantic until we get to the airport now.

When you spoke to Delta did you ask if the missing initial was going to be a problem? If not, call them back and ask to be sure. And bring two forms of picture ID to the airport with you just to be on the safe side. I hope things go alright!

I haven't flown in awhile, but none of my tickets have ever had a middle initial and I've always flown w/o a problem. My brother is constantly flying home from school or back, and he also has never had a problem with his tickets (aside from his own frustrations with the automatic kiosks Razz )

I don't think an initial is an issue. We've flown many times without the initial. Wrong spelling of the full name, yes my bil was turned back. But no initial, not an issue IME.

Missing an middle name or a middle initial won't be an issue either at the check-in (airline) or at security check point.

I once had a ticket issued with DH's surname while my passport has maiden name-hyphen-DH surname. I called the airline immediately and they put a note on my reservation. No problem either at the check-in or at the security check point (though I remember bringing copies of a birth certificate and a marriage certificate just in case). You're correct that airliners won't re-issue a ticket with different names once it's issued already.

I have a constant issue with this. My passport says Nylon Smith Jones (well, not really Wink ). Many airlines can't cope with a space in the last name. So my tickets read Mrs Nylon Smithjones. Luckily I have never had a problem with it. My middle name is on my passport, of course, but I never put it on my tickets and never have a problem.

Actually, I've had this issue.

I was flying to ISrael with Delta last May, and did not realize when they booked my reservation (over the phone) the woman mistakenly typed the first 3 letters of my last name in front of my last name, so it looked like this: SchSchwartz (not my real name). Same story with DH's ticket.

So we got to the check in desk and agent points out problem, says that we may not be able to board our flight, has to get permission from the government. She took our passports, went to some side office, came back 2 minutes later saying they OK'd it. What a relief that was...it was my first trip to Israel, would've been real dissapointed!
