My 9 month old is a very active baby. She crawls and holds on to whatever she can to stand up and play. But she refuses to sit. She started crawling from a tummy position, raised herself up and rocked forward backward till she started crawling fully. B"H she is a happy baby but is underweight. She is pretty petite and is not a great eater. She breastfeeds still and eats solids but not in great amounts. Could the weight effect her muscles tone in her back that causes her to have trouble sitting. When I sit her up she leans forward like she just wants to get back into the crawling postion or supports herself with a hand leaning to the side. The pediatrician is not concerned yet and says I shouldnt seat her until she is ready which is from 9 months till a year and that I should sit her fully till she knows to do it herself because it can cause Ch V a crocked back. The tipat chalav doctor says she needs to go to physio because there is problem with shoulders and upper back muscles.
Anyone with experience in this matter, would be happy to hear some advice and comments.

I'm convinced that how soon a child sits has to do less with motor development and more to do with how much flesh there is on their thighs to help support them! My own two were tiny babies; DS#1 only sat at about 10 months, and DS#2 (the smaller of them) also only sat at 9 months.

She is already 9 months and not interested in sitting.....she is very skinny..
Tipat chalav already recommend taking her to physio.

mine only sits and nothing else... I tripoded mine. I sat her up and put a stable toy in front of her and then she learned how to get balance and now she sits by herself. Try it, you never know, for me it worked within 2 days.... But, my baby hates tummy time, any suggestions how to get them to crawl???

I think different babies like different things. I have twins the same age, one baby likes to crawl around, but cant really sit well, the other baby sits and doesnt crawl as much.

The more active one just doenst seem to have patience to sit in one spot, she also seems more nervous about trusting herself to sit, without supporting herself.

But I do think to encourage them to sit, if you hold on to their legs, so that they are supported, and just let them work on holding up their upper body, that might help

There are other ways you can teach your baby to sit better...

Children can skip some milestone or other and it's fine. Sitting may be too tame for your baby, she may be the on the go type who doesn't want to sit and prefers to crawl
