click on control panel then system then hardware then device manager and see if it is listed under sound/audio etc. it may just be a driver issue.

When I follow any of the tips in the Help I get no audio.

After going to Control Panel/ Sounds and Audio Devices ...It says no audio device........and I cant change anything- it's pale- I cant click anything.

Who in Brooklyn can repair this bec I dont want to send the laptop to Dell. They tell me its a software issue, and warranties cover Hardware issues only.

You should try to reinstall your audio drivers. If you don't have them on a CD go to support.dell.com enter your info and download there.

I did exactly that and it downloaded some audio file to my documents and made no change whatsoever. I guess I'm not computer-savvy enough.

Did you just download it or did you install it? You need to install it (double click the file name).
