so my DH's mother drove me crazy this year.
she was yelling at me why, after they go to the bathroom do I not bathe the kids.
I was like what? after every bathroom? she says yes! otherwise you are not clean!
thats what she says she does- she soaks in the tub several times a day after every bathroom.
she is a very busy person but she says you must make time for hygene.
she actually made me feel very bad.
do you?

I honestly think that's ridiculous, but if you really think it's a good idea, try a sitz bath.

Tell her there's this great new invention... kids wipes! We keep them in each bathroom, the kids use them to wipe, and it gets them really clean + they're flushable! Besides so many baths would be very bad for their skin - too drying.

I agree with motek the behavior is a bit wierd.

I would spend all day in the bathroom if I did that.

word to the wise - those flushable wipes are not always so flushable after a while. we found that out the hard way!

I think that your MIL takes it a little far for herself (maybe she should get a baday).
I could see sticking a toddler's tush under the water after a dirty diaper or first thing in the morning. my mother would do that with my kids and over yom tov I did it to my baby and 2 y.o. but only b/c I don't use baby wipes on yom tov (or shabbos) and I find the shpritz to be very annoying. (on shabbos when I can't use warm water, I am "stuck" with using the shpritz)

but, I wouldn't do it after each diaper change - only first thing in the morning if necessary and after a very dirty diaper.

Scratching Head Try to picture this....
Family with 10 kids, about to go on a family trip for the day. Mother tells everyone to go to the bathroom 'one last time' before the long trip.

thank you. so I am not crazy.
I really cannot imagine doing that.
she made me crazy a whole yom tov! she even asked my DH how often I shower! he said none of your buisness!
I hear my baby screaming and my oldest running to me- I gotta com now!
I go to the screams, and there was my MIL with the baby plunked down in a cold empty tub shivering and soaking.
I asked her what are you doing?
she said, I thought she had a dirty diaper so I came to bathe her. but she did not have one.
I said why is she in an empty tub? fill it! shes freezing! so she says on yom tov you can't fill a tub!
I was livid!
this was the first day of yom tov, so the baby had a bath the evening before!!!
I was ready to K__l her!!!
what was she thinking?!?!? I was so angry I just picked up the poor shiveruing baby and wrapped her and whisked her away and I told her- don't you EVER bathe my kids without my permission.

how many people here bathe their kids on yom tov?
I was not aware you were allowed to- unless you HAD to.

By the way when she asked me why I dont bathe them everytime and I told her I use baby wipes, she said: "Baby wipes?! Oh no, that just shmears and rubs it into the skin."

My baby makes four or five bowel movements a day. If I were to bathe him five times a day, he'd turn into a prune! Do I have to jump into the shower every time I use the toilet too?

chuckle.
