Chanie sees an interesting recipe in a cookbook.

"Oh, that looks good. I think I'll try it. But 4 sticks of margarine? No way! It'll taste just as good with 3 sticks."

"mmm... I bet Raizy will like this."

Raizy "3 sticks of margarine? I bet no one will notice if I only use 2."

"This is pretty good. I think my sister will go for this."

Devorie "2 sticks of margarine? 2 cups of sugar? Oil is a perfect substitute for margarine and they say that you can easily cut off 1/2 cup of sugar without losing on taste."

Malka ".... instead of 1 cup oil, I'll use 1/2 c oil and 1/2 cup applesauce... and let me see if I can knock off some sugar..."

Malka to Chanie ".. The cake's okay, I guess. A bit dense though and it seems like it's missing something. Doesn't taste like yours at all.. but I followed the recipe What Must be the humidity..."

[and then I complain to DH that some recipes just don't seem to work Very Happy]

Yeah, we have a muffin recipe like this. We butchered it ourselves over the years. This past week, my husband asked me to revive it... in its original form. White flour, oil not apple sauce (ok just a little), no extra vegetables, the right amount of white sugar. Ahhh, came out great Smile

Sounds like the poor man who asks his wife to make him blintzes, "like the gvir has every night."
So she asks about the ingredients...
White flour? Who has that? We'll have to use dark flour.
Sugar? Can leave it out.
Eggs? Oil? I can't spare them, I'll have to use water.

So she proudly presents her blintzes to her husband who takes one taste and says, "Feh, what do those people see in blintzes, anyway..."

Lol!!
I had a relative over and she sampled the won tons I was serving for dinner that night. She went home raving about them to her mother, who called me for the recipe.
The next time I spoke to them her mom said "I don't see what's so great about those won tons." Turns out she just substituted "a little this and a little that", and she can't figure out why her daughter went so crazy over this dish Laughing
