we have a jewelry store and in the past I gave the woman teachers giftcards at the end of the year. this year I would rather give the gift now . should I rather give the teachers each $15 cash or a giftcard of $50 to the store- keep in mind - you cannot buy anything for $50 . but the giftcard never expires and you can add to it. but I dont know if they would be going to spend money on jewelry when everything is so expensive. what would you do?

If the person has to add money to redeem it, it's not a gift.

I think if they had to add money, they would think of it as a kind of ploy to get yourself business. Of course we understand it's NOT, but people can't always help but think the worst of others. I would go with the cash.

I think cash is fine to give.

how much its the cheapest item in the store? If you can get a really nice pair of earrings for $60 or so, I would be happy with the gift card. If the cheapest thing is $100 or more, I guess that would be kind of annoying.

we also have a jewerly store, and my husband usually gives the teachers for chanukah a pair of earrings or something and tells them they can exchange them if they want too..or he gives them a watch, like a movado or something..

I think its rude to give a gift card if the recipient is required to add to it on her own. id go with money.
or a gift of equal value. perfume?

I agree that if I have to add money to a gift, its not a gift. so give cash or something tangible.

I also agree. If the buyer has to add money then it is not a gift.
