What do u talk about at school interviews??

I'm looking into schools for dd. What do you recommend I ask about during the school interviews? What are some typical questions? Is it gauche to talk about tuition at the first interview? (Are there usually more than one interviews?) Can I expect to get a tour of the school? If the school has a bad reputation in this or that area, should I confront them regarding it to see what they're doing about it?

Also, what questions should I expect to answer? DD is only 2 now (this is for a school that has a preschool), are they going to "test" her?

I'm specifically interested in Mesores Bais Yaakov in Flatbush for this particular interview, but will look into more schools. so general advice would really be appreciated.

Sorry I can't give you an answer but I'm curious about the same thing...I'm applying to BYA for kindergarten and wondering what that interview is going to be like...

you should take a tour and get a general feel of how the school appears during classes ... neat, messy, vild, ... ask how the school deals with problems - if they include the kid, the parent ... if they are accredited with normal graduation ... as for tuition I'm sure they have all those details written in a booklet - ask them for a copy to peruse through ...

You don't ask questions, they ask you, and they will surely bring up tuition while you are there, they are more interested in your wallet, then your child....

you should be able to ask any questions at the interview that are important to you. however, I believe many people wait until they get in to the school, have the relief of being accepted, and then will ask more questions and become more involved: therefore they dont ask too many questions at the interview. Of course all basic questions should definitely be asked like "how does lunch work, is it school lunch or home lunch, or both" "is there transportation" "what are the hours" "whats the ratio of students to teachers" etc. But anything more contoversial-ish is often saved til after acceptance.

gold, thank you for that good advice. I was planning on asking some controversial questions, I think I had a bizarre notion of reverse psychology - slash - them thinking I was a extremely caring and involved parent, but you're right.
