Any brits here? I need some help, this may be my chance!!

I'm learning to drive in israel but teh law forbids you topractise driving but with a tutar.

does anyone know teh law in England? if I want topractise, (I'm probably coming in december) do I need to apply for a learners permit, or could I just practise driving around with my dad who's an experienced driver? or is that against the law and what could be the consequences...

what's the best way for me to do it?

You would need a provisional license.

Uh, mn, you do remember that the Brits drive on the other side of the road, don't you? (or maybe it's the Israelis who do).

I've been driving for 15 years, and I'm fairly adventurous, but no way would I consider myself expert enough to drive if I went (ch"v*) to England. Are you sure switching sides is a good idea while you are learning?

*we already had a thread on my ch"v about leaving EY. Anyone wanting further details can do a search and not take this thread OT.

You can apply for a provisional license online, but you DO need a UK address to receive one. To the best of my knowledge, you can practice with another driver, not necessarily a certified tutor once you have the L-permit. HOWEVER, the practical test is so, how shall I say, technical, that hardly anyone passes without having sessions with a certified tutor.
YOu also have to pass the theory test, I think combined both tests cost around £100

I'm actually doing teh tests in Israel.

Now I'm not so sure if the provisonal lisence is really worth it, it costs 50 pounds.

My main reason for doing it was so I could drive dad home after my cousins wedding, however since my cousin is getting married in the hilton hotel in the centre of london, chances are we won't be going by car because of extra costs but by public transportation .. and teh rest of thedays....

also if chalila something would happen, even with a permit, I don't know if it's worth all the balagan of insurance etc....

I don't know, I have my dad's address, however under my passport no, I think tell easily see that I'm living in israel.... so it may not be possible....

to insure urself on a permit is very expensive, I dont think for ur sake that it is really worth all the hassle that it entails. and you do not under any circumstances want to drive in the uk without insurance bec if u get caught its very costly. if I were u I wouldnt bother. esp with the differences in the way ppl drive here to israel and things are not always the same.

ok, I don't think I'm gonna bother.

I just found out today that occording to the israeli law, I may not be allowed to get a license, so if I try and do it in london it won't help me either way.
